We’re in Mogro - also loving the coastal alternatives. The 33+ from Santander to Boo was a little intimidating so we stayed in a lovely hotel in Liencres last night, Hostal La Picota. Liencres is only approx 2 km from the coast and approx 11 km from Boo (no Albergue in Liencres). Wonderful...
Has anyone used a hiking umbrella on the Norte/Primitivo in Sept/Oct? Are there long stretches in the open? Likely to be too windy? The extra weight and need to (literally) keep a handle on it are off-putting but I suffered mightily last year on the Le Puy route during a heatwave.
Apologies if this is the wrong thread to post a related question about the Norte. We intend to follow Peregrina 2000s coastal variants and am wondering about the Santander to Boo section. It's a bit too far for our group to go the whole way to Boo but the Posada del Morena has not availability...
Stay warm and enjoy. Late August we’re planning to stay in Irun and bus to Hondarribias then walk back to Irun as our intro to the Norte before we head off properly. Does that seem doable? How far is it? Any advice much appreciated.?
Hi Victoria
Our group of 3 Aussies starts from Irun on 27 August so we hope to see you along the way. The Norte sounds strenuous and it seems important to follow the coastal deviations not only for the scenery but also to find relief from too much road walking! There's lots of useful advice here...
We’re starting end of August and like you want to enjoy the stops too. It’s as much about the journey as the arrival so we’re also keen to read suggestions of experienced Norte Pilgrims.
Thanks Kurt5280: I wrote to them on recommendation from the Biarritz tourist office and they replied that they don't do those stages (sorry I wasn't clear that's what I meant!). They recommended contacting accommodation places so I'll try that next.
Thanks so much for the links - very useful information and encouraging about this route being scenic and well marked. Taxi is an option if all else fails.
Hi Pilgrims
We are planning to start the Norte in late August/early September but (reluctantly) it looks like our group will need baggage services. Would appreciate advice if services exist if we start in Bayonne or Biarritz? Correos and Le P'tit Baggage seem to start only from Irun but I'm...
Happy 2018 from sunny Melbourne and good luck with your recovery. Having such an exciting plan to look forward to will surely speed your progress back to good health. We just loved, loved, loved Le Puy to SJPP and have needed time to let it go but now feel able to start planning for the Norte...
