Coastal alternative Between Castro Urdiales and Laredo

This is my blog post (johnstravels.co.nz) for 2nd June 2019, day 55 on the Camino. “ What a day. Good execution overcomes shocking planning. A nice 27k walk with a cliff top path.
I should have known when I went to leave this morning and my phone hadn’t been charging overnight; I should have...

Please Help! On del Norte now.

Hi Andralynn I think I walked with you (and Sue) a bit on the del Norte. I heard you had gone to the Francés. I’m pleased you sorted it out and had a good Camino. John.

Please Help! On del Norte now.

@Zunigandi don’t worry. The cliffy area is hard to find and easy to avoid!! Just follow the Camino signs up to the left under the highway flyover. Or the blue line on Wise Pilgrim app. John

Please Help! On del Norte now.

There’s a little hand over hand climbing at the top, but actually that’s reassuring. The path up is very narrow, mostly about a foot wide, and the scariest bits are where you have to pass someone coming the other way. I just found a slightly wider patch, stood still but and let them do the...

Given your current state you must take the blue path. Like nickpellatt, I took the red path on a perfect day and was scared in part of it and physically shattered at the end. It is not way marked and is not for the faint hearted. If there is rain or high winds it could be perilous. It’s an...

Camino del Norte - 50 days from May 1st 2019

Hi Nick The mountain route to Laredo was the highlight of my del Norte, scary though it was for me. I’m pleased I did it and I bet you are too? John

Veer Off to the Primitivo or?

In a word, cold. I had a merino shirt, merino baselayer and Patagonia jacket on all day. And a beanie in the morning. And long trousers. Heavy showers yesterday. In short, perfect walking weather, but it’s going to get warmer.

Veer Off to the Primitivo or?

Last night there were only 6 foot pilgrims in the Pola de Siero Refuge and 2 cyclists. That’s probably the total that left the del Norte given the lack of other options. After I left the del Norte I didn’t see another pilgrim until the Refuge. OTOH, there seem to be lots of pilgrims in Oviedo...

    Should I bring a computer?

Do what you’ve got to do. But. On Camino (2) my iPhone does: mail, write and send invoices, negotiate agreements, find accommodation and transport, communicate pictorially, read books, scan, sign documents, do the banking, file tax returns, maps, gps, read newspapers, listen to the radio or...
