LIVE from the Camino After Olleros de Tera

Hello Miaka, I still remember this section quite well when I walked the VdP and Sanabres in 2018. At first, I was also annoyed that I did not choose the "Bicicleta" variant. But with increasing duration, I found it more and more beautiful. It had something adventurous. Yes, it was exhausting...

Puebla de Sanabria - albergue Casa Luz

I’ve been there some years ago (2018) and my impression was not that bad. Well, the hospitalero behaved a little bit like a master seargant but I don’t know if it is still the same person. All in all it was OK. When I look at Gronce now it appears to me that they are open.

    Sanabres over Laza or Verin?

Hello Karin, as I understand the former responders to your posting recommended the Verin variant. I try to do the opposite. Well, it‘s about 5 years ago when I walked this stretch but I remember it was I hike through a fantastic landscape despite some disturbance by the at this time ongoing AVE...

Sevilla during Semana Santa - To Avoid or Not?

Visiting Semana Santa or not. Be aware that the camino will much busier around Easter because many Spanish have holidays at that time.

    How is Camino Sanabres ?

Yes, there is some asphalt walking but 95% on minor roads. You hardly see more than 3 cars per hour 😌. As Juandemor told the highway will not bother you much and AVE works are nearly finishing. So the problems from there will be minor ( if any). I stood in the following albuerges (beginning out...

    How is Camino Sanabres ?

Hello Elisabeth, I think June will be a good time do hike the Sanabres. I’ve been there in April 2018. And yes, had some snow when passing the Padornelo pass. The landscape is fine, the track now is well marked and the infrastructure for pilgrims is quite good (well, not comparable with the...

    Quick bit of advice

Generally there will be possibilitys for second breakfast or something similar. But not allways at the time or the place you want. Be aware that the VdlP doesn‘t have the infrastucture like the CF. Yes, ist enhanced a lot in the last years But there are still long and lonely stretches without...

    Cáceres

Just FYI: The cathedral of Cáceres is a so called co-cathdral because the diocesis there has two seats: Coria and Cáceres. Coria is located about 50 km NNW of Cáceres and isn‘t passed by the camino. Historically Coria is the main seat but Cáceres now is the provincial capital. May be that‘s why...

    Advice on starting VdlP

Hi Dave! I walkest the via in 2018 and started in Sevilla a week before Good Friday. Be prepared that during Semana Santa the Camino can be quite crowded. I expierienced full albergues. Many spanish are on Holiday in this period and use it for some camino stages. My advice: Come to Sevilla some...

    Was this cheating?

Well, I´ve done it but I don´t call you a wimp. For me it´s nearly an (possibly pathological) obsession to walk every meter on my own feet. But in this case it wasn´t pleasant: Pouring rain and low temperatures. The stepstones in the creek in Berrocal were flooded so I had to wade the ford. As...

Hospitalera along the Vía de la Plata

Good location! Around 25-27(?) km from Zamora and maybe 15 to Granja de Moruela. ¡Ultreia!

Via de la Plata mid March

Hi Christina, I startet 2018 in March too. Be prepared that in the Holy Week quiet a number of mainly spanish pilgrims will populate the via. This year it will happen about 4 weeks after your start and I would expect you then around Zamora (if starting in Sevilla). Take it as an opportunity to...

    Sanabrés from March 20

Hi Annie, I was there end of April 2018 and had some heavy snow showers at Padornello and a bit of snow the next day proceeding to the galician border. As I understand you, you will be there in early March. So be prepared for some snow in the mountains. But I don´t think that the camino will be...

Vdlp in december is a lonely way!

Yes, that´s quiet normal in the Dehesas. This landscape is made for extensive stockbreeding. Just pass the cattle quiet but with determination and you will have no problems. (I never heard of serious incidents with agressive cattle and pilgrims.) Ultreia!

Accommodation on de la Plata around Easter.

According to my experience in 2018 it is the Holy Week (from Palm Sunday to Easter) which is crowded on the camino and in the albergues. Many spanish pilgrims are on vacation in this period and use it for some days of walking. After easter it becomes much more quiet. But why not coming to...

    Salamanca to Santiago, please comment

Hi, Yoyo! I walked the VdlP in 2018, starting in Seville two days before Palm Sunday. I found the camino and its infrastructure unexpectedly crowded. But after easter it became much more quiet. So my general recommendation is to avoid semana santa (except you want to experience the traditional...

Compostela For the Via de la Plata

...perhaps, because you´re getting short on stamp fields in your credencial

Compostela For the Via de la Plata

I walked the VdP from Seville combined with the Sanabrés in 2018 and did NOT collect two stamps per day on last 100 km (starting in Ourense). I found it somehow ridicoulous after a 1.000 km pilgrimage. And the clerk at the pilgrims office had no problem to give the compostela to me.
