When I walked the vdlp in 2018 I thought that me gusta comer was amazing. I had such a good lunch with my walking buddies that everyone in the albergue came for dinner and loved it. The staff changed the menu of the day for those of us who were there at lunch to give us something different. I...
I walked the second half of the vdlp in 2018 starting late April from Salamanca. There were a few nights when the alburge got full and late comers slept on a mattress on the floor. Most nights there were was plenty of empty beds. I didn't book any night until santiago and I had zero issues...
I did the half vdlp from Salamanca in may 2018 after doing the CF in sept 2017. It's a very different experience than the CF, I think you may need to do a bit more research before committing, a round number of km is not enough. The distance between villages and alburges is greater and you...
I walked this exact route in may 2018. I'd be tempted to say start at zamorga but I met some great people on my first few days. I was planning to do 20-25 km days but closer to 35km average after the first week. Easy walking and not so many places to linger in the day.
I am surprised that...
I walked in April from Salamanca this year. I carried a light summer sleeping bag. Most but not all of the municipal albergues had blankets so I used one on top of the sleeping bag. A few times I had no blanket so I used a silk inner liner as well and wore some of my clothes. This worked...
I think this is pretty accurate summary. Not walking on the highway as such but very aware of it a lot of the time. Plus detours to cross, or around junctions or railway. Not terrible just a bit dull I thought
I walked from salamanca via ourense in April this year. I think it was 19 days. I allowed for more time but ended up walking 28km plus on many days. Its easy walking on the whole and the fewer accommodation options can lead you to longer stages. In retrospect I would start at zamora. Apart...
I walked the second half of the vdlp from salamanca this year in April. I didn't see anyone having bags transported( so very different to the Frances.). Even in April with all of the albergues open there are some long stages. I think it may be a bit more difficult and /or expensive than you...
I just used the free maps.me with the GPS route I got from a thread on here and the gronze site. Gronze is in Spanish but the browser on my phone translated it into good English automatically.
There was no problem. Plenty of English speakers tho not many English. Best part of this walk is that you get to know pretty much everyone else walking as really so few compared to other routes.
I walked here in April. We walked to the monastery I loved staying here, great place for a hostel and nice to get vespers. It didn't seem like a hard walk to me but I had been walking for over a week by then.
I didn't book anywhere and had no problems getting a bed any day. In April even...
I stayed at the last municipal albergue before Salamanca. I can't recollect the name but lovely, usual 6 euro. About 18 km from Santiago. Its very easy walking. We set off a little earlier than usual, great to see the dawn on the last day. In Santiago by 10:30. Worth considering?
The Vdlp is perfect for this. I walked from salamanca earlier this year. Easy to walk alone, with no sight of anyone else for hours then arrive at the albergue or bar to meet all of the lovely other people you have been seeing for the last week.
Just finished. You definitely need a sleeping bag, for instance none of the municipal albergues in Galicia provide them. I saw several cold pilgrims sleeping in their clothes.
In Astorianos now on the Santabres. The weather has continued to be great, no rain. The path has been a lot nicer and more varied since my last post.
I think I was in a trough in terms of pilgrim numbers the first few days as after walking a couple of longer days I am now seeing a lot more...
