That's right. The yellow are the Camino and the blue/green are the original Roman Via de la Plata - they occasionally diverge and join up again. Seems like a long time since I walked that Extremadura section
There is however a casa rural near Cea which will come and collect you in the car and return you there the next day for 9 euros. It's called alojamiento Pazos.
On this section from Grimaldo to Galisteo I saw a group of about 10 deer in the early section. It was amazing to hear them galloping through the park land, then suddenly stop when they saw me, before galloping on again.
Great practical tips for pilgrims there. Thanks for your photos. I did this section of the VdlP two years ago before COVID and the photos are great to see
I'm going on Tuesday 1st March to continue the VdlP as I was interrupted by COVID two years ago. I'm a long way ahead of you but send you my best wishes. I have loved the VdlP and hope you enjoy it too. The first day is rather prosaic once out of the city but thereafter it has the added...
Very well marked. I think there was only one place which wasn't so good and that is on the highest section South of Salamanca - between Fuenterroble de Salvatierra and San Pedro Rozados I ended out on a pig farm on a parallel road to the Camino. It obviously happens a lot a the pig farm has...
This year I walked from Seville to Zamora in sections through the winter. There was accommodation open everywhere and most albergues were open. However, after coronavirus who knows what will be open and when... The advantage of doing the early stages earlier in the year is avoiding the heat.
I walked that section at the end of November last year, which meant short days in terms of daylight. The route from Castilblanco to the entrance to the park is boring, roadside, with ups and downs. Which makes the park all the more delightful. The park makes the rest of the day worthwhile. I...
Thanks Dan for posting this. I'm just over half way to Santiago on the VdlP - having a long pause for obvious reasons. I've started reading the journal. It's great. Looking forward to refreshing in my mind what I've done so far as I read. Thanks again for the work put in.
Not really. All I would say is you are in for a treat. Not the walk up to Montemayor from Aldeanueva, on the road, which is awful. But the calzada romana through the Béjar pass is good. And then the last part through the valley of the Río Cuerpo del Hombre is one of the most beautiful parts of...
Coming through Banos de Montemayor earlier this month, all I can say is that it was as dead as the proverbial dodo. It seemed like there were so many places to stay and eat...but everywhere was closed, and some seemed permanently so. I can only think it's a place for the summer. Personally, I...
Earlier this month I did this section by staying overnight in Galisteo, and then walking via Carcaboso as far as the Finca Ventaquemada. There I arranged for a taxi to pick us up and take us off Camino to Plasencia, and then to take us back the next day. Not a cheap arrangement but Plasencia is...
There is one before the one at the end of García de Vinuesa. It is, however, high up, on the wall right opposite the main door of the Cathedral, so it's the nearest to the beginning of the Camino. Good luck climbing up to it though.
