Advice Via de la Plata Salamanca to Astorga

Salamanca - Astorga twice. And I will definitely go again. So - it's really worth it for me. CF is too crowded for me, and the Camino de Madrid is beautiful, but there is still a little less pilgrimage infrastructure than on the VdlP. From the part where the Camino splits into Sanabres and...

    Anyone starting out of Salamanca?

Hello and welcome! Answer your question: twice. Salamanca is one of my favorites among the cities on the Camino. It has an amazing combination of the atmosphere of a historic city and the beautiful architecture and youth and freshness created by young people (it has been a famous university city...

VdlP to Astorga - Looking for Threads / Blogs

Thanks! The bridge is just behind Barcial del Barco on the way to Benavente - the “new” (a few years old) route runs along the previous railway tracks, Kilometers of beautiful trails (with an idyllic wooden fence and a very nicely landscaped track). If you walk in May - it's really like walking...

VdlP to Astorga - Looking for Threads / Blogs

I walked this part of the Camino twice. VdlP is different from CF, for sure. But this part is even more different (which I especially like). Everything is more elementary and therefore in a way even more experienced - all the time you are with yourself and with nature (and locals). The vast...

Via de la Plata, April 2022 - to the Sanabrés, or Astorga?

In 2019 the albergue was open, but Gronze now says: "Cerrado temporalmente".

    Via de Plata from Salamanca

Like you, I don't like crowds. I walked from Salamanca to Astorga twice. Wonderful! Take an extra day for Salamanca :). As Roger said, from Granja de Moreruela to Astorga you really do meet someone else exceptionally. And that’s not the only advantage - the way is very beautiful (to me...

    VdlP in July/August

I went through the Salamanca-Astorga section in August (I was 63 then). I started walking at 6 am and ended at 13:00. Yes, it was VERY hot (although this is the northern part of VdlP). Walking was not problematic, with sufficient water. My problem was the time from 13h to 22h - you just have...

Hot days on the Via de la plata

I (63 years old) was in last July in the part Salamanca-Astorga. This is certainly not as hot as the southern part. Walking was not the biggest problem (I walked until 13-14h), but then the heat of heat (35-40°C) is up to 22h in the evening and there is no activity - it is simply too hot for...

Is July too hot for Camino Via de Plata?

I just came from the route Salamanca - Astorga. It was very hot. I went from 5:30 (in darkness) to a maximum 12-13h. At 7, 8, 9h was no open bar for coffee or something else. All water must be worn with you. However, peace and authenticity have been worth it for me.

    Favourite Albergues on VdlP

Albergue in Villares de Orbigo is really, really, really nice and pleasant. Owners are extremely friendly but not intrusive http://www.alberguevillaresdeorbigo.com/
