Just chiming in here.....I’m Australian and I don’t know anyone that calls our country Oz! I think it is mostly Americans that use that word. We just call it Australia or Straya
I will never forget that part. We were lucky and not very much traffic as we crossed the bridge. It didn’t worry me but my walking buddy had a major panic attack. The tunnel was another story. It seemed about a km long and the fumes just about suffocated us. Remember this day Colleen Sims????
I found guidebooks were pretty much useless. Used Via de la Plata Premium and Sanabres Premium apps- brilliant!! It also helps to read other people’s blogs
Be very very careful. It is advised NOTvtovwalk that section in summer. I walked mid September and it was over 40 degrees. As you can see from the photo, I had my life saving sun reflective umbrella. I was unaware of how dangerous it would be. It was 40 degrees by 10.30 - 12. Check weather...
I walked mud seotvto end oct. from Seville. The first part is like a meseta and was over 40 degrees. I had a sun reflective umbrella that I’m sure saved my life. (Photo attached). The history on this route and the Roman ruins etc are phenomenal. It is by far the best camino ive done and you will...
Definitely go!! but the VDLP is the road less travelled. Maybe the Frances would be better for you as it is your first time. There are lots of people on the Frances and it is quite social and safe
Hi Ellen, You will probably meet others but it certainly is the path less walked. We walked in step/oct and met only about 20 other pilgrims. We followed the blog of another person walking ahead of us as the Guidebook was not the best. You can read my blog if you like. It might...
Oh you poor thing. I’ve heard spring is the wettest time. Some of it is going to be very slippery. Be careful my friend . This was me in the autumn-SO hot (over 40 degrees) the total opposite!!!
The Sanabres is certainly less populated and as a woman, I would not walk it alone. It is rugged and quite isolated but yes, stunningly beautiful. Guess it depends how adventurous you are. Why not try the Ingles or Portugues?
Hi there, I found that guidebook to be lacking in many ways. Ended up downloading a couple of excellent apps....Via de la Plata (premium or basic) and Sanabres (premium or basic). Also followed blogs of a guy walking a few days ahead. You can read my blog on my website if that helps...
I started about 21st sept in 2016. It was over 40 degrees Walking the long few days! It was really hot!! The first part is a bit like a meseta. Don’t expect cafes and water fountains either. In the length of time it takes to walk the VDLP, you get all types of weather. (We also had to sometimes...
Yes the VDLP is very different. Longer stages at times, rugged, albergues are varied in quality and I found it to be just a bit more expensive. Very few cafes and many of the smaller towns don’t have shops. We had to carry a bit of food with us sometimes. I downloaded an app called Via de la...
