I’m not sure I can separate the physical from the emotional and spiritual.
But ….When I was approaching 70 I thought I didn’t have another Camino in me. At that point the body was not in the best of health.
Much to my surprise, factors collaborated, the Camino called, and I walked the whole...
Interesting thread. In 2007 on the CF I walked with groups and walked alone. I did hear that dreadful word bed race for the early risers - but there was no concept of a 'Camino Family'.
I tended to (and still do) ask to join up with others when feel I need support (mostly in the early...
I vote for Sanabres from Ourense. I haven’t walked from Ferol so can’t compare.
However, I absolutely loved this route when I walked a couple of years ago. Start with a few hours in the hot Springs at Ourense and exploration of the old town; a visit to the monastery in Oseira; days on the...
If your health is still improving I think the added stress of travelling between three routes would detract from the total experience.
I agree with the suggestion to pick one route and enjoy. The idea of starting on the flat is excellent (Meseta or VDLP from Salamanca). It was my strategy for...
I think if your main priority is to walk a Camino then get out of Madrid and onto a Camino asap. Unless your arrival time is late evening you should be able to do that in one day.
I think a train to Pamplona (basically the ‘start’ of the Francés (you will probably want to come back and finish...
I think anywhere in Galicia is beautiful.
Sanabrés from Ourense (100+ Km to Santiago) is another possibility.
The Ingles is another complete Camino.
Or start at St Jean and see how far you go - and come back to do more.
Whatever you choose you can’t go wrong.
Lots of great examples.
The success of going with another depends on the needs and personalities of each person.
If they are similar then planning and walking jointly will work more easily.
If they are different then one person will need to surrender a little, or maybe a lot, to the needs...
@Turga Your comment made me think.
‘I’ and ‘Our’ suggest some ownership. For me its always been ‘the Camino’ - a spirit being all of its own. We approach it from a range of perspectives.
The Camino joins with me in the same way as a friend or loved one, to help me discover how it will be...
Sanabre has my vote. At the moment it seems like the best kept Camino secret - rarely mentioned- so would recommend before it gets too busy. Loved the hot springs at Ourense and everything that followed.
In 2007 I purchased a post card that looked very similar to your image - I loved it.
Re numbers - This depends on definitions.
One definition says that one’s Camino begins the moment you step out of your front door. So that number is enormous.
Official Caminos is a very finite number...
Living in the blessed land of Australia employees get 4 weeks annual leave and something called long service leave (7+ weeks) if you stay with one company for 10 or more years (but possibly not if you own your own business). So mostly we don’t have the time challenges that others do.
However I...
Can I suggest Sanabres from Ourense. You can start with a day or two in Ourense and enjoy the hot springs. The Japanese themed one is amazing with lots of different pools of different temperatures as well as spa jets in some.
The walk from there is very beautiful. You can also go to Oseira...
I had a similar experience with a friend on Camino Portuguese. We both had a really hard time with each other because she needed to plan and know ahead of time where she was sleeping and I wasn’t interested in planning at all.
But it depends on which Camino you are on. I am currently on VDLP...
I am currently on Via de la Plata and left the hot hot plains about a week ago. I can honestly say I did not enjoy many elements of the first part of this Camino. I was resistant and grumpy - I just couldn’t find the joy. Then through various circumstances there were some days when I walked in...
Same here. Third Camino this year. Hubby always at home happily looking after things. A friend asked if hubby has said he will miss me (he has not). I mentioned the question to him and he just laughed. 😂😅
Feeling grateful that we can both happily do our own thing. 🙏🏼
I will be on Via del la Plata starting Sevilla from late September walking slowing. You will probably catch me up if you choose this route. 😀
Portuguese is more expensive for a solo pilgrim. Lovely in its own way.
I was thinking that most of us today who can afford the time and money are a very lucky relative few I’m terms of world populations and the inequality that abounds. What if people who were found guilty of a crime today might be given a Camino walk as punishment rather than jail.
Really my post...
