    Gronze’s GPS tracks

I’m using Gronze, but as far as I can tell, the track downloads feature is not yet available for Apple phones.

    Vodafone vs Orange

Oh, great. Just bought a Vodaphone sim in León and have been loving how great it works, but of course I’m in the city now. I really hope it doesn’t quit working when I’m in more remote places!

    Vodafone vs Orange

At first my phone didn’t let me make calls on the Vodaphone sim, either. But I was able to go into Settings > Cellular and click to make the phone use the Vodaphone for calls, and now it works.

    Vodafone vs Orange

I’m in León right now and had so many problems with Orange that I’ve been looking forward to getting here and finding an alternative. I ended up at a Vodaphone store, where they were extremely helpful (possibly facilitated by the fact that I do speak Spanish). Even though I’d preferred to use an...

    Vodafone vs Orange

I have Go Walk, too. My balance keeps depleting, and then they tell me it’s too low to have decent internet speeds. I couldn’t figure out how this could be happening, but it dawned on me that they’re charging me for every single promotional text they send me. I haven’t sent a single text, and...

    Vodafone vs Orange

I AM using a Spanish sim!

    Vodafone vs Orange

That’s a good difference to note. I’m in Spain and can’t download Orange’s app. I get a message saying it’s not available in my country. I have several apps working, plus the clock, all of which know I’m in Spain.

    Vodafone vs Orange

What I have figured out is that they’ve been charging all these texts THEY send me against my balance, which is what draws it down and results in them throwing me onto really slow internet speeds. Their texts are about silly promotions and multiple reminders. I haven’t sent any texts. I feel...

    Vodafone vs Orange

I’m using Orange and have had one problem after another. Latest one involved topping it up after my initial 28 days. They sent a link to use, but it wouldn’t let me pay with a foreign credit card. The program said it would send me an email to use to set up an account with a foreign credit card...

Multipurpose shoes for shower and town?

I am 2 weeks into my Camino, which included the Aragonese route, and I’m doing it in Tevas. Using Oofos in the evening and around town. I considered Crocs instead, but after trying both in a shoe store, found the Oofos SO much better. Definitely worth it.

Where to buy toe socks along the Camino Frances?

I just saw them in a Camino-oriented store in Santo Domingo de la Calzada. Store is right along the Camino.

    E SIM

Huh. OK, looks like I should look more closely at Vodafone and Movistar, then. Thanks.

    E SIM

Yeah, with most of the esims I've looked at (all except Orange), you only get data. If you also want a phone number, you need Orange.

    E SIM

Yeah, I've seen cheaper ones, but as far as I have seen so far, Orange is the only one that offers an actual Spanish phone number. Depends how much you want that.

    E SIM

Good to know! This seems like a way better deal for an esim than the ones Orange offers for purchase online, which are around $30 for just 14 days, although with unlimited and calling and texting (but way less data). This makes me think I'll just wait till I get to Spain and go to an Orange...

    E SIM

It seems they don't, but you can extend their 14-day one. If you do that for longer than 30 days, you need to register the number on their site. Their 8 GB one is pretty reasonable, if you're mostly going to be using stuff via wifi anyway.

    E SIM

Do you just get their 14-day plan with 8 GB for 20 Euros? That seems expensive if you're in Spain for a few weeks. (I'll be taking my time from the Pyrenees and then staying in Spain for additional time.) Online it looks like their only esims that have a phone number are these 14-day ones.

    Sun Umbrella

Yeah, I'm considering just seeing once I get there whether I really need one, although the cheapo umbrellas usually won't stand up to wind, and they're heavier, so options might be limited. I don't see myself doing multiple, repeated Caminos, at least not for several weeks at a time. When I did...

    Sun Umbrella

Undecided about getting a hiking umbrella. Doing the Camino this spring, starting around May 1 in Somport and planning to do the Invierno after Ponferrada, so I'm anticipating rain in Galicia. I did a big chunk of the Camino 20+ years ago, and somehow miraculously had absolutely no daytime rain...
