    Sleeping bags or liners.

I walked the CF from August 11 to Sept 8 (or so, I remember it was 26 days). I only had a silk liner and never needed more, not even a shirt. I biked the CF in Sept and did take a lightweight bag and used it, except when in a hotel, every night. So for your plan I would agree that a...

    Trail Runners

I am also a trail runner fan and have gone through a bunch of different ones during my running and hiking life. When I walked my first Camino I started in my trusty La Sportiva Wildcats. (I had run several marathons and ultras in them, as well as backpacked, without problems.). But, I did my...

How do you use such a small pack?!?

That's what I've done on two Caminos. I happened to use Teva's because I would feel comfortable hiking in them if I needed to and they function well as shower/albergue shoes as well as town shoes.

    Rumpl blankets?

I found very lightweight sleeping bags with a zipper from RedCamp on Amazon for $18. They pack down to just over a liter and come with a compression sack. They are fine for shoulder season Caminos. In the warm months I carry a silk liner, which is about 5 oz, packs very small, and was plenty...

Hunt For The Elusive Perfect Sleeping Bag

Excellent point. I was a bit taken back when sleeping in a bunk next to some pilgrims on the 5th floor of the municipal albergue in Burgos who were not when then got up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Hunt For The Elusive Perfect Sleeping Bag

I found the perfect compromise of weight and comfort when I hiked the Appalachian Trail in the US. Ferrino is an Italian company. I got one of their ultralight bags. It is rated to 50 degrees F (10 C), weighs well under a kg, and has a fairly roomy cut. It is not great if it is really cold...

    Flights - Carry on Rucksack

I just carried my 35 liter rucksack to Madrid, from Oveida to Madrid, then Madrid to Philadelphia. No problems. I regularly use my 35 liter pack as a carry on for travel.

    What to wear in bed?

I always carry a pair of running shorts for backup in case things are wet, dirty or don't dry. So, I like to sleep in running shorts. They are loose enough that I can "air out" over night. (So, for bottoms I carry hiking shorts, convertible hiking pants, and running shorts.)

    Runners or trail runners?

I love my La Sportiva Wildcats. I am a pretty avid trail runner and have done lots of hiking in them. I've even hiked the Appalachian Trail and Kilimanjaro in trail runners. BUT.... the Camino was different. Walking on hard surfaces in the heat (I did the CF in August/Sept.) was tougher. My...

    Camino Dress Code :-)

I used almost the same combination except no tights and one pair of shorts. And, I added a pain of lightweight convertible hiking pants and zipped off the legs, so I had a second pair of shorts. Then I used them as long pants when I thought I should wear long pants. I slept in the cleaner...

    Leaving boots at home...

Another vote for trail runners. I switched from boots to trail runners while doing the Appalachian Trail and had no foot problems when I did. I´ve used them for other long hikes such as Inca Trail and Kilimanjaro. On the Camino my feet got really hot and swelled to the point that I could not get...

    Poncho vs Rain Jacket

Greetings. This question may have been addressed but I couldn't find it. Does anyone have a recommendation or good reasons why I should take a poncho vs a rain jacket? I am a pretty avid backpacker and have both. I'm in the final stages of preparation now and am excited to leave for Spain...
