I wore a legionnaire style hat for my first 3 caminos and then took a euroschirm umbrella last year for the VdlP. It was great. Provided shade and kept my head cooler than a hat. Was also good the one day it rained.
Oh I wish I’d seen this thread earlier !
I started the VdlP in Seville in April and sadly had to finish in Zamora with a knee injury. Turns out it was a stress fracture. A week recuperating with family in the UK and now back home in Australia using crutches instead of hiking poles.
I’m very...
My Scarpa boots have been resting in the wardrobe for 3 years after walking 3 caminos with me in the previous 3 years. I am now planning to walk the VdlP this year and only yesterday took them out to check the soles .
I feel very sad that I will need to replace them as they have saved me from...
I have worn an adventure hat on all my caminos. It is lightweight and cool and is not a problem with my backpack. I also wear it under my rain jacket hood to keep rain from my face so it works well for me.

I have no regrets to only carrying a sleeping bag liner. I am a very warm and restless sleeper and the liner has worked well. As previously mentioned it really depends on when you are walking and if you get hot or cold at night. I have only walked in March/April/ May or September and the...
I have worn Marmot Precip on 3 caminos and have been very happy with it; waterproof, lightweight and agree the hood folding into collar is great. I wear it as an extra layer in the cool mornings and nights as well as a rain jacket when necessary.
I am also considering taking my DSLR this year so pleased to see others do, despite the extra weight. Like the idea of the Gopro bag so will investigate.
Might see you on the way @Iriebabel if you are still walking the Camino Del Norte end of March. Buen Camino
Thanks for sending the photo and your advice. Seems like a good option as I’m anticipating much more rain than previous Caminos. What brand did you buy ?
Hi Colette,
Thanks for this information.
I’ve been trying to decide whether to try a poncho this year ( Camino del Norte in March ) or stay with my rain jacket and now think the rain jacket might still be best. I will also look at rain kilt which I haven’t used before.
