What I do, as well. Baseball-type cap keeps my glasses clear of light drizzle, then I'll pull the hood of my rain jacket over the top as the rain picks up.
I first walked (for 2 weeks) in October, leaving SJPP 10/9/15. I had an unlined gortex rain shell with hood and a fleece. That was all the outer layer I ever needed. I also had a short-sleeve, very light-weight merino tee, and a long-sleeve medium-weight merino shirt. I usually started with all...
I use the same. 100% cotton, dries me off, large enough to wrap around me toga-style, and I could hang it from an upper bunk for privacy and to block light. I got it from Amazon and will try to post a link, or at least a more specific description.
There are so many miraculous medical uses for Gore-Tex, but I'm grateful my only need has been to keep me dry. I love my Gore-Tex jackets.
The Gore-Tex plant is not far from us and a relative worked there for a number of years. From what I recall, he described it as a good environment to work...
Ditto to all the reasons above. Mine is the long version and I wear tights or leggings underneath for the chilly mornings or evenings. Easy to take off layers as the day warms up, or put them back on as it gets cooler. Plus, I always feel a bit more appropriately dressed when going into...
I have the Kindle app on my Galaxy S8 Android. Whenever we travel, I always download a bunch of books, almost always (but not always always) related, and usually (but not always😉), fiction about the particular country I'm going to. Because I love to read and can't imagine being without a book...
At the moment, my three words are Sabbatical Elbowing Millionaire. Oh, don't I wish! 😉
Seriouy, I only see benefits in this. Hopefully it will catch on and be used and promoted by first responders. Thanks, Dave.
My husband swears by his Tilley. The only reason I don't have one is because I didn't want to look like twins. 😊 He says it does get hot wearing it, though. But he's also very susceptible to heat.
Maybe if I had a red one... 🤔
It's high viz, with gray reflective stripes along the visor and around the cap. I bought it to stand out when I walk the side roads near my home. Light-weight, quick dry, perfect Camino wear. I love that cap. Wore it every day.
@t2andreo I also bought the high viz yellow "construction worker...
I wear a baseball-style cap. Not exactly stylish, either, 😉 but it keeps the rain off my glasses and the sun out of my eyes. And I look like a total dork in the sun hat my friend gave me as a Buen Camino gift!
I've only walked in spring and fall, so blistering sun on the back of my neck isn't a...
As with all our possessions, caution is always important. However, the likelihood of someone deliberating stealing your shoes is very low. Please put your mind at ease on that account.
However, someone mistakenly grabbing them in the morning rush and heading out without realizing it --...
I've been on the camino three times, but only had two comments on my patch, which I had so proudly sewn on my pack. One woman simply said, "I like your patch." (Obviously not a forum member!).
The other called out "Camino forum!" and invited me to join her group for a cerveza after I registered...
Excellent advice, as always, @t2andreo . I'm probably over thinking this. I already have a reflective cap and waist bag, and a bright green pack cover, so I'm probably good to go. The extra step of a vest just makes me feel a little more protected. Too many days walking along my local roads...
I ordered one yesterday. The shipping costs more than the vest, but saves me 90 minutes driving and is still a bargain. Locally I walk along some busy state roads to get to my trails, so I like the idea of this vest for the sunny days as well.
