    Time to buy new Altras

Rebekah...….I picked up my Lone Peak 4.0's for £102 from Blacks in UK. (100euro).

    Time to buy new Altras

I moved over to the Lone Peak 3.5's and completed the Norte & Ingles last year and loved them. Although I have done close on 1000 miles, I can still use them for training hikes on dry flat surfaces - the tread disappeared around Sigueiro last year. It's been nigh-on impossible to buy 3.5's in...

    Question about Altras

Hiya Geoff, I used Altra Lone Peak 3.5's on the Norte & Ingles in June/July and a few more miles on my return home. They are looking a bit worn on the soles but I think they are good for 1000 miles total. (although I always avoid road-walking where possible). I am currently planning the Via...

    Question about Altra shoes

Another convert here. I bought the Altra Lone Peak 3.5 and have been walking 10 mile per day with no issues. Reason for purchase was three-fold. (1) My pace is fast, but I have a tendency for heal-strike resulting in ongoing injury. I have modified my stride pattern and the zero-drop is allowing...

    Somebody help?!

Great advice so far for a horrible condition. As a past sufferer I try to keep my feet supple by manipulating a tennis ball around my bare feet while in the office or sat watching TV etc. I find the exercise keeps my feet fully stretched. Also, bear in mind keeping unwanted Spanish food in you...

    Advice: minimalist packing list?

:eek:Aghhh......and nobody has mentioned 'bed bugs'! If you are thinking of getting a sleeping bag liner - then get one that has been factory-treated against bed bugs. Buen Camino

Best ap for text -- using wifi

Will be walking north from Lisbon next week. I'll be using WhatsApp and Messenger, but not looking forward to the countless messages that will include 'look what I'm eating' followed by pics of tortilla, Cozido a Portuguesa, Caldo Verde, Caramel Custard etc. etc. (my mouth is watering...

The ultimate pocketknife to take on the camino

Good question, how about: - A master key to open all Albergue doors when arriving back after the 10pm curfew! - A thermostat, so that I can drink my Rioja at the temperature served in Spain! - An Oxyacetylene Torch, to enable me to cut through my Jamon Bocadillo! Just a thought Davie

Best ways to organize one's pack

The morning I caught the bus to Paris my 2 y o granddaughter unbeknown to me help load my backpack. In St Jean I feasted on a half-eaten Penguin (choc biscuit) and I was still eating the odd gummybear as I reached Logrono. :D Food from heaven!

Wearing Your Camino Boots On Airplane

Here's a tip for getting a seat on your own! Last year I took a bus from London to Bayonne. Took my boots off in Paris and put them on the seat next to me - not bothered by anyone for the whole trip. Buen Camino Davie

    Porto to Santiago (walking sticks?)

Welcome Emo, I am a convert to walking poles, well one to be exact. There has been a lot of research that supports the protection and distribution of weight across your body rather than just your knees. Numerous other benefits I found was supporting my poncho when I made an impromptu tent during...

    Sandals ???

Started training this week in a pair of closed toe HI-TEC sandals, £35 from Go Outdoors in UK. I will use these as back-up for my Keen Walking Shoes. Starting out from Lisbon 2 June and anticipating lots of heat & tarmac. So far, so good! Buen Camino

What is the one luxury or non-essential item you would bring with you?

I think rubbing Kendal Mint Cake into your feet will sort out any problems you have with vicious dogs on the trail. Imagine melting 1k of pure sugar and then adding 1k of sugar to it.......that's Kendal Mint Cake!

    Shoe advice

Welcome Toni, I strongly recommend that you get you feet measured properly and fitted by professionals. Not knowing your country of residence I cannot point you in the right direction, but please bear in mind your feet can expand up to 2 sizes during continuous walking. Likewise my feet are odd...
