That was a broken-in, but new pair of the same Gobis. Didn't want to switch shoe type in the middle; just switch due to wear & tear, as you can see!
P.S. I took my beloved Para poles in a small suitcase, which I sent through baggage with other non-carryon items. Sent that to Ivar from Madrid and...
Most trail runners do well on all surfaces.
I used New Balance Gobis, which were great.
Remember to size up one notch.
Your feet will thank you down the trail!
This was in Leon, where I switched shoes (from my care package mailed from Madrid 😊)
Walking poles...YES!!
Buen Camino
Trail runners are fine! That's what I wore. But, make sure they're broken in.
If you're doing the full CF, consider having a second pair somewhere around Leon. I had made a reservation there ahead of the start and sent myself a "care package" to that place from the Madrid Aorport. 250 miles and...
I LOVE my poles. I thought I was well trained for a "flat lander" on my first Camino. I started out of SJPDP on a sunny day and less than a mile later hauled out my poles and leaned on them all the way up to Orrison! I would have been on my knees without them!
The only place I didn't use them...
Tongue-in-cheek or not, this has been a fun and interesting post.
I especially like the "switch blade" poles!
I haven't laughed this much with a post for some time.
Good to have you back, Dave!
The path on the CF is truly variable, with asphalt, trails and farm tracks and even some old Roman stone tracks. I wore trail runners with a good grip for slippery slopes. Mine were New Balance and I switched pairs in Leon about midway on the CF, having mailed them to the hotel I booked in...
I carried a small Nikon Coolpix with a telephoto on my first Camino. Took great photos. I had a transfer dongle that allowed me to upload to my iPad/iPhone.
But, since then I've upgraded my iPhone and it does almost as well and I can edit and post immediately.
If you have a good phone camera, no...
I wore these small gaiters on my first Camino:
I used these small gaiters on my first Camino.
They did an excellent job of keeping small stones out of my shoes.
This last one, I didn't have them and wished I had.
But, I used all the "rock stops" to munch on snacks😎
I agree with the Sundayafternoons.com selection!
I’ve worn them for some time after discovering them at the Grand Canyon National Park; both baseball style and wide brim. Look for the SPF 50 ones. I get skin cancer as well. So, I still use sun cream especially on my ears.
Great selection of sun...
Early on I used a water bottle/"sucking tube" system until I lost the insert after cleaning it in Lorgono and dumped the contraption. (I drink electrolyte replacement due to heavy sweating. So, cleaning was needed.) Finally, I just kept the Powerade bottle filled 1/2 with water, 1/2 with...
I'll throw one more option out. I, like you, tried on many different pairs; most of those mentioned above. None worked for my feet and legs. As someone noted above, everyone's feet and legs are different.
I ended up wearing New Balance trail runners-Gobi 2. I had to get used to the color, but...
I bring my iPad mini on all my treks (& pilgrimages😀). Lightweight and with a simple lightweight cover. Then, I can read (not much) and write (a lot). And, when I have wifi, I can blog or FaceTime. My iphone is too hard on my eyes and big fingers to do any serious reading or writing. I also use...
FastDB, since you already have NB shoes try their Gobi 2 trail shoe. I also have flat feet and did the Camino last year in these and had no problems. The only advise that makes sense is to try many shoes. Order, walk around your house a lot and reject any that don't feel comfortable. Shoes are...
I think the problem with drones is that operators don't realize that the technology, while not intentionally intrusive, is just that...Buzzzzz, Buzzzzzz, Buzzzzz...click, click, click. And, try as technology users may not to be unintrusive, they intrude. It's similar to people posting my face on...
Awhile back, someone posted "What was your favorite thing about the Camino?" Not surprisingly, the top most liked was SILENCE and/or PEACE.
I don't recall a single person saying "my drone" or even "hearing/seeing a drone".
Probably best left home.
Buen Camino
Having used my Paria poles (https://www.pariaoutdoorproducts.com/collections/trekking-poles )in the Andes and on the Camino, I highly recommend them. Not the least because their customer service is absolutely the best! One of mine jammed open (i.e. I couldn't break it down ). I emailed them pics...
