    3 Quick packing questions

It sounds like you have plenty of advice already but let me add a question or two for you to ponder. Camera: what is your intent? If you love photography I'd lean toward taking it. Being able to record my memories on my camera was important to me on both Camino's and I'm glad I brought mine...

How much do your backpacks weigh?

The non-rule is a guideline of a comfortable weight to carry so if it was a rule - which it isn't - then it would refer to everything - which it doesn't. :)

How much do your backpacks weigh?

I know you were joking, but it is something that alot of people don't consider. They will worry about a gram here and there and spend all kinds of money to save that last milligram of weight when, for some, there are kg's resting comfortably all around them...literally!

How much do your backpacks weigh?

FSO (from skin out) 9.6kg Max wt I'd have on my back (FSO - lightest set I'd ever wear walking) 7.5kg Max wt on my back less 1.5l water 6.1kg I also calculated what my true min I could expect to carry if I was to eliminate all non-essentials (i.e reduce to .75l water, no luxury items like...

    Advice: minimalist packing list?

Buen camino. Looks like you've done well. I hope your cheapo poncho holds up. It doesn't look like you have any other way to keep your pack dry. You'll be fine. Don't worry about the Napoleon - after day one you'll likely not think about it again - but do check the day you arrive. It is...

    Advice: minimalist packing list?

Other items I'd consider mandatory: Safety pins (for hanging wet clothes on the outside of your pack) (4 large/4small) 0.2oz total Pack cover, dry bag(s), trashbag or liner (to keep items in your pack dry) Current converter for your charger (if it's not already EU configured) 0.2oz Light (head...

    Gram Weenies

No...not on Maseta. But you can buy another plastic bottle and carry it on those days. So for me - this year I'm bringing two .7L bottles and filling them half full where water is plentiful and full when not.

    Gram Weenies

I don't disbelieve you, but I'm surprised. My two Li camera batteries lasted the whole 5wks.

    Gram Weenies

Our home is Winston Salem NC. Headquarters of Krispy Kreme. It's still hard to believe our little local donut shop became a worldwide thing.

    Gram Weenies

Well, this has been fun. Some others from my side... If you journal, be advised that there is lightweight paper and heavy paper. I'm sure that waterproofing and permithrin(ing) adds weight although I've never done a before and after to know how much. Anyone know? Safety pins come in all...

    Gram Weenies

Question and request of all you gram weenies. Q: How much does a compactor trash bag (as used in a pack as a liner) weigh? Request: What's your favorite gram saving tip(s)? My contribution - A pencils weigh less than a pen Re-usable ty-wraps weigh less than carabiners for attaching things...

    Pack liners

Camino 2014 we were blessed with only one day of rain the entire 5 weeks. Crazy. My wife and I both had pack covers. That we put on an off when the weather threatened. Her's was a simple bag with an elasticized draw string that made it simple to put on and off. Mine was a more complicated one...

Craziest thing you've seen someone bring on Camino

Perhaps we all saw the same person. Somewhere after Sarria we stayed in an Albergue with an attached restaurant. While I was doing the daily ritual of scrubbing my underwear and socks in the outside sink after a hard days walk, I overheard a woman talking to her companions. I recognized her...

Craziest thing you've seen someone bring on Camino

I just don't understand what he must have done off-road. How do you take such a load walking across stretches like those just past Atapuerca?

Well this was fantastic. I've enjoyed the posts. I guess we shouldn't judge others, but sometimes you just have to wonder.
