    What does "good shoes" mean?

Well said Tincatinker! went through the shoe/boot thing 20 years ago when I walked my first Camiño. After trying 4 different types at home that didn’t fit, I found the Lowa Renegade boots and they fit perfectly. I added superfeet insoles that better supported my heel/arch and have never had a...

    hiking boots versus tennis shoes

Debra: As Nanc pointed out - the advantage to buying your boots/hiking shoes at REI is their great return policy and trained/experienced sales people. Go back to REI and explain the problem you are having with your boots (detail where it hurts). Then ask them about trail shoes vs. boots and...

    Underwear right size

Off subject...but had to share:p! I love Exofficio underwear and have taken them on five caminos. I am currently helping a first timer plan her equipment so we made an initial trip to the REI sports store this week and spent over 4 hours trying on of packs and shoes/boots. While my friend was...

    Shampoo/conditioner

I found my hair is difficult to comb with the very hard water in Spain. My hair was like straw after my first Camino. I now take a moisturizing shampoo and very concentrated conditioner in small squeeze travel bottles. It usually lasts 4 weeks. I cut a bar of regular bar soap in half to save...

    Soreness with backpack

You are doing way more than most people. You will definitely be ready for your Camino!

    Soreness with backpack

Wayfarer: I saw the same thing. I just returned from my Camino and was surprised at how many people I saw (especially once I joined the CF) with their waist straps undone or the pack riding tightly on their shoulders...you can see them from quite a distance as they pull and yank at their packs...

    Soreness with backpack

I disagree...you shouldn't be uncomfortable. I had my pack fitted correctly, especially the torso length. People kept trying to put a woman's pack on me even though I am 5'10'' and have a very long torso. At my local REI sporting goods store they measured me and recommended a men's pack. Once...

    Soreness with backpack

I would check with your local sporting goods store to make sure you have your pack adjusted correctly. It sounds like the upper adjustments may not be holding the pack close to your upper back and the weight is pulling backwards - against you (you should have two adjustments - top of pack to...

ESSENTIAL Equipment for the Budget Concious Pilgrim?

Robo: Not only economical, but you could make money selling those steamed eggs every morning! (Tongue in cheek ...I got it!). But seriously, as a daughter of a Japanese mother, I know how important that rice is to your wife. What a wonderful supportive husband to understand her needs, take the...

    Trail Running Shoes

Sorry about your feet Ricitosdeplata...but good to hear from you. I hope you are enjoying your Camino!

    Women's Underwear Thread(s): Tops n Bottoms

I like a sports bra but really hate trying to take it off/put on in the small shower stall when I am damp! I Like the comfort and stretch especially to sleep in. Wore my everyday bra on my first camino and found it a little uncomfortable. I love my sports bra that has cotton content but found a...

    Wet weather clothing

I have found trash-compactor bags work better than regular trash bags. They are thicker than regular trash bags and hold up well as a liner for a backpack. You can find them at grocery and hardware stores. I use them all the time and have never had one tear.

    Waterproofing Shoulder Straps with Wax

Ricitosdeplata: a fellow Texan here. I have been reading your posts and enjoying them. You sound very prepared for your camino so agree with others...don't sweat the small stuff (there will be smellier stuff than your pack straps:(). One good thing about my past caminos is that I didn't know I...

    ear plugs

I had a similar humorous snoring incident. I walked with some men from Catalonia one day. At the albergue I got a top bunk with one of the men on the bottom bunk. He tied a string around his wrist and then looped it up to my bunk and told me to just tug on the string if he snored. I said...

    Lightweight Hammock

Oh...and you forgot to mention that those trees on the meseta were about a km apart;)!

Indicators of a great shoe fit

Ha ha! Love spell checker...it creates a lot of humor for everyone from us dumb ones that don't read our posts before we hit send:)! Or could it be a Freudian slip...what you get on the camino is a gamble, isn't it?

Indicators of a great shoe fit

LizziM: I had the same problem on previous caminos then I found a great liner sock by Injinji...they have five separate toes. I use a product called "glide" on my feet first then use the sock as a liner sock under my main sock. Never had a blister or problem once I started to use this method...

    Over Organized Woman's Packing List!

Totally agree on the conditioner...ruined my hair on my first camino...hard water turns hair into straw! My one luxury is a good hair conditioner.

    Packing for June/July do I still need a jacket/fleece?

"Looks kinda silly"?!? Doesn't that describe most of us peregrinos;)!

Lightening My Load Before I Go

I agree. Cut these items out. Instead of flip flops I found a very light weight pair of woman's crocs - waterproof for the shower and comfortable to walk in around town. Regarding the journal, I think that is a personal choice. I find moleskine journals are lightweight and great quality...but...
