Got some ideas from this thread. The only unique thing I can think of is my husband put a couple of little googly eyes stickers on the back of his backpack. They just made me and other pilgrims smile during some long hot stretches. That was one added weight I never begrudged us having!
I like to stay warm too but dont like to carry much. When I got cold, I just took out my lightweight down sleeping bag and put it over my shoulders. Worked great.
I also dont like the feel of a neck purse or waist belt. I put my passport and money in a quart size ziploc bag and keep it in a deep inside pocket of my backpack when hiking, then in a zipped pocket when lounging around, then with my shower bag when i shower, then in my pillow at night.
