    Recommended Shoes

Hi, I’ve only walked one Camino and it was in the Fall, but I had to reply! For over a yr I ordered multiple trail runners, walking shoes, hikers. I have wide feet so it took awhile to find a good shoe. I ended up taking NB 940 and Keen Newport closed toe sandals. I wore darned tough wool...

If You have Walked the Camino - Do you prefer boots or trail runners?

Lucyev, where ever you go as for help. Tell the staff what your using it for and they will help. I brought a bag of my stuff walked around the store for 1/2 hr with the weight at 15lbs which was the highest I would go. I’m glad I tried it out changed several times until I found one comfortable...

    Ladies Osprey Packs

I am a large woman after trying in many different backpacks I ended up with the Osprey Kestrel 38. I’m a total newbie! The Camino was my first hike ever. I walked last September and I’m always cold so I packed a sleep sack and light sleeping bag. The Kestrel gave me enough room and was the only...

    Reading while on the Camino

Hi Dani7, I brought my iPhone 6s+ which was large enough for me. I had enough to carry without a separate e-reader. I used it for a couple things. My Spanish is minimal so I downloaded tha mass in Spanish and English. Helped me to participate in mass. Secondly, I downloaded a non fiction book...

Does anyone wear gloves for sweaty hands on hiking poles?

Catphillipes, I worried about this cause I have neuropathy and have to grip my poles... I bought weight lifting gloves in sports section Walmart $10. They are fingerless and padded. For me they did the trick! I tried baseball batting gloves but preferred the fingerless and padding. Try a couple...

    Cell Phones

I just brought the phone I use here... iPhone 6s+. I got an orange SIM card when I got to Spain. My Spanish is limited but there were several people at the Orange store who spoke English. They seem to have done this before and were wonderful setting it up for me. I used the phone to email home...

Ready to look at new footwear for Camino

They do have waterproof socks you could try out. I think they’d be hot though. I decided that if my feet got too wet I would just change socks.

Ready to look at new footwear for Camino

Hi, I did my first Camino 9/18 and spend a lot of time trying on shoes/ boots/ sandals. My feet are like Fred Flintstones ... Wide large and flat. Zappos became my best friend as I ordered and returned pair after pair of footwear ( I live 120mi from the nearest city so this was my only way to...

Equipment for Chubby Girls (perhaps an ongoing guide)

Ladies... or gents if you know... Along the same lines do any of you have recommendations for “sports wicking” bra? Thanks

Equipment for Chubby Girls (perhaps an ongoing guide)

I agree clothes for women who are a little large are hard to find especially inexpensive options! I’ve bought a few things from Columbia that fit great got them on sale but regardless we’re still expensive. The only alternative is men’s clothes which don’t always fit well. Luckily only had to...

    Nightwear

“I mostly slept in my underwear and T shirt. The other times I was in my hiking shorts and T shirt for the next day. I am from the US, and I think we maybe a little more prudish..."chastity of the eyes". “ Being an American I agree to your generalization we are way more prudish when it comes to...

Blessings Michelle! My mom just passed away 11/9 I will be walking the Camino in her memory and in memory of my friend Nancy who died of Cancer the year before... I have no ashes but have both of them in my heart to encourage me along the way. I will carry a little Tupperware to hold some...

My new pack. Show me yours!

Anni, Do you pack a sleeping bag? And I'm assuming 1 change of clothes wearing 1 set of clothes. What coat do you wear? Thanks

    Kindle usefulness?

I agree with smartphone. I have an iphone6splus for me it's big enough. I don't want the extra weight or to have to remember yet one more thing to pack, charge, etc. this is such a personal preference thing like the whole camera vs smartphone debate for pics!

    Where to lighten the load?

Hi Mega, Try to think of it as a weekend trip! Bring bare necessities just what you wear and a change. Bring sleeping bag liner or sleeping bag not both-I'd do the liner. You can always add a layer at night to sleep in! One light jacket and pants or just poncho no down. If you have bad feet I...

    footwear

I love my Tevas both low cut hikers and sandles. Both have support I need and dry pretty quickly. I wouldn't do waterproof for me because my feet would sweat too much. Whatever you decide walk a few miles in them before you go and make sure they provide the support you need. Good luck! On...

    Mont-bell jacket

weight is important but if the jacket does t do what you bought if for i.e. keep rain out or wind out what's the point? I'd rather carry a little more weight and be dry and warm than carry something that is not functional but that's me!

    Sleep sac

Bring a liner and if you get cold just put on another long sleeved shirt or fleece or coat whatever you're taking for warmth! Even sleep in your socks will keep you warmer. I'm sure you will be fine BonCamino
