Loved 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy ' . Thanks for the quote!

    Towels

@mainardguy , welcome to the forum. Yes, you definitely need your own towel. Most pack a travel towel or similar. Ditto sleep sheet as a minimum. Booking - generally it’s suggested to book your first couple of nights, and then take it from there. Starting off a little slower is often considered...

Small juicer, vegetarians and heating element?

Mixed views from mixed experiences. Many have them, but not all. Some have a jug but no microwave. Some Albergues have no kitchen. Some, like the Xuntas's in Galacia have a kitchen but no pots, utensils etc. Some will have everything, including coffee machines. etc, etc.

    Packing List: Welcome All Comments!

@Rold Gold , that's an excellent base weight. Considering how low this is, and the comments you've made above, I would keep the power bank.

    Sleep sack for bed bugs

Well, last year it was quite the topic in the news. Paris metro and British public libraries immediately spring to mind, so.... BUT : So does Chicago, New York, Vancouver, Moscow, Sydney and every other major city in the world. These bloodsuckers are indeed (unfortunately) everywhere.

    Sleep sack for bed bugs

" Thanks for this Doug, I wasn't aware that the difference between the two was so dramatic. I prefer nature-based products however in this instance I clearly need to do more research. An important consideration for @HeatherJourney and others to consider.

Small juicer, vegetarians and heating element?

Quite a few people carry good cameras which can weigh quite a bit. Others carry books, town shoes, dresses, or other luxury items. If the juicer is small enough and only weighs 2-300 grams why not? If it truly does become more nuisance than it's worth you can always opt to leave behind. As to...

    Sleep sack for bed bugs

Sorry but the treatments don't generally last that long. I can't remember the exact time frame ( 6 -8 weeks rather than years) and it depends on whether it is factory treated or if you treat it at home. The other major thing that affects it is how many washes you put it through. So if it's...

    Sleep sack for bed bugs

Hope you don't mind, just answered that yesterday: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/summer-cf-sleeping-bag.86347/post-1247283

    Sleep sack for bed bugs

@Ponch , welcome to the forum. It's a myth. Even if your liner is treated it will not help, it takes too long to work (hours). Bedbugs simply crawl in the top, exactly the same as you do. It can help prevent you spreading any bed bugs that you do encounter, as closed up in your rucksack for...

Shoes, shoes and more dreaded shoes.....

I don’t think you are, nothing heated about the response? Especially as @VNwalking goes on to say Footwear, like backpack’s, poles, or even why we walk is such an individual thing. It appears that on Camino, just like on any long distance walk, far more people wear trail runners than boots...

Backpack is 2 kg too heavy TwT

Valuable point. I always try and alternate which side I lift it, hadn’t actually considered how I lift, although it’s probably instinctual given my background. I must check.

Backpack is 2 kg too heavy TwT

It's not, far from it. I for one value the contributions you have made to other posts. And you've raised an interesting topic. It's just that I try and ensure that a balanced view is presented. Whilst there a hundreds of regulars and thousands of experienced pilgrims /hikers on the forum, many...

Backpack is 2 kg too heavy TwT

Interesting Sport ! And I see what you mean about the benefits however all of the info I read also warned that you shouldn't walk consecutive days at the beginning. For example "For someone new to rucking, we recommend rucking for for 15-30 minutes 2-3 times per week. Start out with a distance...

Backpack is 2 kg too heavy TwT

Yes, you may come across bed bugs. There are a huge number of posts on here from long-term pilgrims that have walked multiple caminos and never had an issue. Equally, there are posts from people that have come across them on their very first Camino. Sprays (Pyrethrin) are used prior to...

Backpack is 2 kg too heavy TwT

@NicoO , that's not a bad list, and if you are comfortable with it go for it. I personally would delete a couple of items, while still remaining in the 'having a spare' camp. For example in addition to what I am wearing ( shorts, t shirt, long sleeve etc) I would carry just 1 pair of trousers...

    Summer CF - Sleeping Bag?

Bernadette, hundreds of people have asked variants of exactly the same question, as a quick search will show. Basically, the answer is probably not, but : 1/ Do you normally sleep hot or cold 2/ are you comfortable sleeping in your clothes if you get cold? 3/ the weather. 4/ whether you’re in...
