    Trekking Poles

Hi Woody, any idea what the price of purchasing in SJPDP would be? I was going to check my poles for the flight from US. If the cost isnt to high, I may just purchase a pair when I arrive in SJPDP next week and keep my current pair for when I hike on my return home. Thanks!

    Trekking Poles

Hi misspenn! The larger round attachments are probably the snow baskets. You wont need those. The smaller rubber tips are good for pavement but quickly get worn down to nothing. They do stop the clicking sound from the tips which is nice. I find that trekking poles are also good for setting a...

    Ultra lightweight backpack--worth it?

I'm an avid backpacker that owns several different types of packs. 2 pounds does make a big difference. Particularly on your feet, knees and hips. The downside of lightweight packs is that they usually have thinner padding on the hip belt and shoulder pads. If you're trying to keep your weight...

Exact clothing bug bite prevention: brand/type socks/parts/shirt/hat?

I'm an avid hiker here in the northeast of the US where mosquitoes and ticks are very prevalent. I spray all my hiking clothing with Permethrin. You can also get a bug net to put over your head/face if your concerned about flies/mosquitoes swarming your face.

    Rucksack flight bag

I bought one of these IKEA moving bags. Their cheap and very light weight so I can carry it till the end and use if for the return flight as well if needed. I'm from the US and airports where I live don't have the plastic wrap stations like you see in Europe so I think this IKEA bag is the best...

    Sleeping Bag Compression Sack

As an avid "all season" backpacker, I stopped using a compression sack years ago! I put a trash can liner in my pack and stuff my sleeping back and hammock under quilt in that. I find a bag in a compression sack to be too bulky and solid against my lower back. Plus, you end up with a lot of...

Sleeping bag or liner and blanket

I was planning on spraying my bag with Permethrin. I do that every year anyway to keep ticks and mosquitos away when I camp. I use a mummy bag in cold weather but have a light weight rectangular one for warmer seasons. Thanks for the reply!

Sleeping bag or liner and blanket

Hello veteran walkers! What was your preference for sleeping gear when you walked? Did you prefer a light sleeping bag or a liner with a blanket? I'm starting my first Camino (Frances) in late April but have been an avid backpacker for many years. I've used both "systems" depending on climate...
