    Small Folding Knife - Buses/Trains in 2024

Update on my children’s Opinel: just now in Chamartin they flagged my knife. But, after examining it they let me take it through🤞

    Small Folding Knife - Buses/Trains in 2024

The last two Caminos I carried the below Opinel knife onto planes, trains and buses without confiscation. I have no idea of the legal specifications and restrictions on various knives. My hypothesis is that the rounded end of the blade makes it less menacing and that’s why it wasn't confiscated...

Shoes for Sarria to Santiago in May

I wouldn’t advise the old sneakers, not enough tread for wet pavement. Don’t ask me how I know! 🤕 The boots seem like pointless weight. Trail runners have more aggressive tread lugs and would work better than road runners. Even though there is a lot of road and pavement walking, trail runners...

How light was your backpack for Camino Frances (800 km)

Great reply! I would add, similar to what you have written, that there are three factors to consider in ultralight weight backpacking: 1. Weight 2. Durability/functionality 3. Cost. You can optimize any two of these at a time but not the third. That is you can get low weight and high...

How light was your backpack for Camino Frances (800 km)

I got down to 4.5 kg pack weight, not including worn weight, for my last two summer caminos. 3 kg is really hitting the lower limit of weight, imho. You would need an ultralight backpack, such as gossamer gear or other boutique brand which would basically be a sack on your back. Remember, there...

    Pack weight question

You’ve done a good job. At some point on the Camino, maybe after several days, I think you will start to look at your pack very critically and decide there are things you don’t really need. Then, you can throw them away, donate them, or mail them ahead to Santiago. This year, after 5 days on...

    Equipment for July 2023 Camino

If your Moabs were the waterproof versions with gortex that would tend to worsen the problems you encountered.

    Equipment for July 2023 Camino

For your first Camino, you did a nice job packing only 6.2 kg.

    Trail runners on the Norte

I wore Speedgoats three times on the Norte. No problems. Not sure why anyone would say they would be inadequate. Also saw many people in trail runners on the Norte.

How to recharge my Vodafone pre-paid card

Agree you should be able to do it online through their website. I have done this many times. Occasionally I have had trouble getting the site to accept my American credit cards, but Paypal worked.

    Hokas with wet grip?

I walked my first two caminos in Stinsons. I slipped and fell several times. Now wear Speedgoats. No more slip and falls.

Summer and 2 Pairs of Socks

Have you tried rolling some anti perspirant on your feet?

    Either Or

I just buy whatever REI is selling. They have a lot of Sealskinz brand.

    Either Or

Another vote for non waterproof shoes plus waterproof socks if needed. With waterproof socks you can create an instant waterproof boot. But I would only use these in colder months, say November thru March/ April. Waterproof or gortex shoes take a very long time to dry. Non waterproof shoes will...

if you’re not tired of looking at packing lists anyone want to chime in on newbie list for april-june? (frances)

A lightweight merino wool long sleeve hoodie has been a game changer for me. So convenient and versatile. So easy to pull the hood up if you want protection from cold, wind, or light rain, and especially from the sun as it covers your head and back of the neck. So easy to pull hood down if you...

Switching fr boots to trail runners: Wool or Coolmax-type socks?

I wear the Speedgoat. The body is made of a very breathable mesh. I would think under any circumstances it will be cooler than leather boots no matter what type of sock you wear.
