Tips for Choosing Comfortable Ear Plugs

Just in case you’re unable to wear them, I couldn’t get them to go / stay in my ears and was fine. Friends who had walked the CF said it was a MUST and I was almost panicked I couldn’t get them into my ears since I’m a light sleeper. I also don’t necessarily FALL ASLEEP even after 200K+ bike...

Trail runners: Altra or Brooks, or Hoka????

I used to wear Brooks Cascadia but my foot doctor recommended Brooks Ariel instead for arch support. She has me remove the factory inserts and use an orthotic arch support inside the shoe as well. Her test for arch support: hold the shoe perpendicular to the ground and press the toe against the...

    Sexism in outdoor clothing

Oh I bought a close colored iron-on patch on Amazon. The minute I hit it with the iron >> sizzle . . . brand new hole. I can sew animals, clothes not so much. 😞

    Sexism in outdoor clothing

You’d totally get away with wearing those in public. Makes up for dowdy farmer hiking wear. 😁

    Sexism in outdoor clothing

Ya, whoda thought “hiking pants” would be so flimsy. Thought running shorts would be out of the question for respectful reasons til I watched videos of Camino walkers in them. Just throw running pants over to go into churches. 👌

    Sexism in outdoor clothing

Spent my whole working life in jeans everyday. Brand new REI Sahara hiking pants for Camino >> one fall and holes in both knees.🤔 Drafting my Nike running pants for the Camino, XXL to get legs long enough.😉

    Sexism in outdoor clothing

Women’s just reward for having nothing but ugly cycling shoes to choose from. 🤣

Fear NOT...Solo Hiker's Best Whistle for Safety

Thank you for that! I got an Osprey Jib35 at a yard sale and YouTubed a review of it, looking for this feature I'd been told Ospreys had. No could find anything hanging or attached but JUST found it thanks to your "incorporated into the buckle." Got 4 dogs barking and storming the front window...

How Often Should You Clean Water Bottles?

Great idea to use denture cleaning tabs, I carry them anyway for my retainer. I can scrub the cap with my toothbrush, it's easy enough to clean. 👌

Changing Socks (or just airing them out)

Is it OK to keep your pack on your top bunk with you?

Ugh I've sprayed so much RoundUp in my life I'm probably already on borrowed time :(

Changing Socks (or just airing them out)

That's my plan if my posterior tibial tendon acts up. *Hydrotherapy* fixes all :)

Is it OK to keep your pack on your top bunk with you?

Lol @nycwalking isn’t this what most people pack for the Galapagos?🤣

Is it OK to keep your pack on your top bunk with you?

Bueno @Vendee52! Stayed there (La Roche-sur-Yon) for the first stages of TDF last year. Better meet up with a Spaniard to operate those washing machines, they’re a piece of work. Bringing enough blenderized Zote soap to handwash the whole way. Hope they don't confiscate / jail me in South...

Is it OK to keep your pack on your top bunk with you?

Lol you got that right. First timer overplanner nerd. Packing now for 4 months out to include volunteer vet gig in Galapagos > hiking Machu Picchu > biking Mallorca > volunteer vet in Medina del Campo, Spain. Strategically diitching unneeded stuff as I go to culminate in walking the CF then...

Changing Socks (or just airing them out)

Good deal, thanks everyone for the feedback. I figured wet was the enemy. 👿

Is it OK to keep your pack on your top bunk with you?

Thx all for the info and ideas. Gonna go with rolling everything up in the pillow compartment of my sleeping bag liner (so I can’t forget something, cuz I will) and not touching pack til morning. Spraying pack with Sawyer pyrethrin spray. My neighbors who walked the CF in 2013 got me thinking...
