Short gaiters with trail runners on CF

I have a complete difficulty with walking. I somehow flip up mud and coat the back of my calves and knees. Evidently when it is dry it flips up and fills my shoes. Discovering gaiters was a godsend. Before gaiters if I was walking on sand or rocks I might have to stop every kilometer or less...

Short gaiters with trail runners on CF

I am a very big Dirty Girl Gaiters fan. I have worn them for three years, and am on my second pair. They are not waterproof, but they are made of bathing suit -like material so water running down your leg does run over them. They would not be waterproof for deep puddles. They sell a camino...

What's Your Favorite Socks or Combination You Have Ever Used?

My preference is either REI silk liners or Injinji liners, with a merino wool sock over top. I did the CF and on to Finisterre with no blisters. My better half had one blister. The fit of the socks is so important though. Not loose and not too tight. We also have different thicknesses of...

    Socks!

Agree! We did our camino frances and on to Finisterre last autumn. We either wore Injinjis or REI silk liners inside our darn toughs. My better half had one blister I had none. The two socks essentially prevent friction, and the darn toughs can present quite a statement.

Hi AnneO We did our first camino last autumn. Aside from other medical problems I have a bad scoliosis that gives me some chronic back pain. We went to MEC (sort of the Canadian version of REI). The back pack guy sized me up with a Gregory 25 liter pack. We never filled it, but it would have...

Using a Cell Phone in Portugal: Tips for Traveling Canadians

Hi Doughnut NZ Orange would not let us load our French cards online, nor in Orange stores, while in Spain. That was very frustrating. We should have loaded up credit when we bought it but we did not know how much we would need, and they made it sound like it was really easy to do (which it...

Using a Cell Phone in Portugal: Tips for Traveling Canadians

A Canadian phone must be unlocked since 2017, even if it is an old phone. Getting a SIM card in Portugal or Spain is quite uncomplicated. Buy enough time and data for your whole camino though, if starting in a country other than Spain. We started in SJPdP in Sept '21, and bought a French SIM...

Hiking poles (please bear with me) need honest advice.

Poles can be used for many different reasons, but if the only reason you are considering using them is swelling in the fingers then the easiest resolution for this is to do stretches of the hands. Make a fist and then stretch out the fingers to their fullest. Repeat this 10 times. Do it every...
