    Raincoat or poncho?

    We prefer rain jackets- since in the evening on parts of San Salvador and Norte we needed all the warmth we could find and they served us well, also in the mornings when there was still frost on the ground. Our packs were so light- all our clothes were in use!

    How big is your pack?

    we have osprey stratos and sirrus packs, both 36 litres. They served us well on el norte, primitive, and san Salvador. Two years ago they seemed fairly full @~7 kg. This year, we have so much room and about 6.5 kg. We find that personal preference outweighs the 10% rule of thumb.

    Hiking poles

    Sort of off topic, but in Canada we can take ice skates for playing hockey (with sharp blades) on board airplanes in our carry on bag, but no hiking poles, nail clippers, tiny scissors or other dangerous goods. Must be a cultural thing!
