I wear NB walking shoes with Darn Tough light padding and did the Frances in October/November 2022 - lots of rain, but the shoes dried overnight. I did not size up and had no issues. Wore the same brand/model on the VdlP in 2023 with similar good results. For rocky/wet sections use hiking poles.
Walked the VdlP last March/April and only had 2-3 days with light rain over 45 days. Had a sun/rain umbrella and lightweight gore-tex jacket for cooler mornings
I've had good luck with the GG Kumo36 on local hikes, carrying about 12-15 pounds for training. My Camino pack is a Zpack Nero 38 made from DCF. The pack weighs 11 ounces, is waterproof and can comfortably carry 18-20 pounds. Used this on the Frances, Portuguese and Via de la Plata so far.
As mentioned, get fitted or fit yourself and order online, most companies allow returns. I use a GG Kumo for local hike and comfortably carry 10 -12pounds. For my Caminos, I have used an even lighter, frameless, waterproof bag made by Zpacks, the Nero model. Easily carried about 6 kilos of base...
I always wear long sleeves and pants made out of synthetic material with UV rating. Traveling off the Camino, I use long sleeve shirts and pants made of linen and silk blends. Don't take them on the Camino due to longer drying times and weight. Also wear a brimmed hat and carry a lightweight...
Had a bamboo shirt for other travel and did not like it. Merino blend socks are great. Merino shirts don't work for me and perform the same as synthetic, which is more durable and cheaper.
I walked the Sanabres in April/May 2023 and the best you can count on is operating refrigerators and microwaves. Any pots, plates, silverware - or a sharp knife - were a bonus.
Walking the Via de la Plata in late March into April and am going back and forth about whether I should take a lightweight down sleeping bag or a silk sleep sack and hope for/count on blankets being available in the albergues. Thoughts and suggestions. Thanks
I live in the US and will be walking the Via de la Plata with an iPhone 14 (only eSim) and was looking for recommendations from people who have used an eSim on the Camino. An eSim provider that provides more than data - talk, text and data. I do not need any comments or info on physical Sims...
