    boots vs shoes

You do you! If you’re a boots-man, be a boots-man ;) everyone is different! No need to wedge into a pair of sandals if you don’t want to. Walk it how you wanna walk it! You’ll know a couple days in if you want to change your approach!

    boots vs shoes

For me, shoes were the perfect solution. Boots are nice, but the vast majority of the trail that I hiked was very shoe friendly. For the parts that weren't, I just paid a little more attention to my steps. I went with some Hoka trail shoes that were awesome.

    Camera Backpack Recommendations

Right on! yeah, they have really nice and well thought out inserts too. I've taken the inserts out of my Borealis and put them in my Rush 24 on an around the world trip. Stood up great. Hope you find the perfect bag for your needs!

    Camera Backpack Recommendations

I've used 5:11 packs with camera inserts, but one of my favorite camera bag solutions have been offered by Mountainsmith. I don't see the version of the Borealis that I've carried in the past, but they make some great bags. Super bombproof, and well thought out...

    Question for DSLR users

I know you've already looked at the capture clip, but I would encourage you to give it one more try! I've used mine on a Canon 6D, 5D, and eosM around the world and it has been transformational to my travel photography. Having the camera at hands at all times encourages more photos. I even used...

    Waterproof pouch for your passport

great piece of kit to share! I used a small sandwich ziploc bag... this would have been a MUCH better solution. Marked for next time. Thanks!

Carrying a DSLR camera on Camino

I've been raving on the capture clip for years. I love it. Also look into the "shell" by peak designs. Its a great companion piece to the clip that offers some weather protection too. https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/camera-protection.44216/#post-474176

Pants or Shorts or Zip off Convertible Pants?

On these kind of trips, convertible all the way. Sure, they are not very fashion forward... but they save space in the pack and provide me with a ton of options. I'll walk with those legs half zipped on to keep cool, and then zip 'em straight up when a storm is rolling in, or I get a little cold.

Which bags in addition to the backpack?

My bag system is: 1. Main backpack. 2. two rolltop sea2summit dry sacks inside that bag. One holds clean clothes, and another holds dirty clothes. 3. one generic tiny "ditty bag" to hold my shower kit. Everything else lives in my pants pocket. If I cant carry it in my pocket, I dont want to...

Smartphone vs. camera - how to carry the camera?

Capture clip for the win! I used it on my camino with a canon mirrorless, and with my full frame DSLR when trekking through Africa and Iceland. Tremendously great piece of gear.

    Under 1lb down quilt/bag?

I'd take a look at Cummulus: http://sleepingbags-cumulus.eu/uk/categories/sleeping-bags/down-sleeping-bags I picked up a Light Line 200 and it was awesome. 535 grams.. i think that's 18 ounces? so.. slightly over a pound. But, it has become my go-to sleeping bag. Packs down incredibly small...

Advice required: Compact Camera for Video? with External mic Input

I know this camera thread is old, but for anyone else looking, I'd encourage you to look for a Canon EOS-M as well, but a version 1 or 2. It's a small mirrorless camera that has the same sensor as some of their entry level DSLR's. You can mount an external mic to the hotshot and you have an...

    Camera Protection

Yeah, you've got to keep an eye out for where the camera is when you put your bag down, but for me, that ws a small piece to pay for the convenience.. this not to say I didn't give the camera a few good hits the first few times! Hone I travel I completely change my tripod setup so I can...

    Camera Protection

That's awesome! Glad it worked! Isn't it a great piece of gear?

The 2017 “Should I take my ‘good/nice/big’ camera on the Camino” post

I love this discussion! If I were to go on Camino again, I would without a doubt, take my DSLR setup. A fullframe camera, a general purpose lense like 16-35 or 24/70, and a specialty lens with a faster aperture (ideally 1.8 or lower). Probably the easiest to replace secondary lens is the...

    Camera Protection

I've used the clip with many variations of camera... on the Camino withe mirrorless and small pancake lens, hiking with a mirrorless and an EF-24-70 attached, full frame DSLR with a variety of lenses, and finally full frame DSLR and EF 70-200. At all times it was attached to my backpack strap...

    Camera Protection

The best place for me was on my left backpack shoulder strap. It ended up sitting about 3-4 inches below the top of my shoulder. Depending on the thickness of your strap, you may need to compress it a bit to get the clip on there, but it worked great for me. I hiked with either a 16-35 or a...

    Camera Protection

Maisy, one thing you can do, is lookup "Camera Bag Insert" on Amazon. IT will return various little padded inserts that you can place in your backpack specifically for camera storage and organization. There's all kinds, sizes, and arrangements depending on what you need. In the past, I've even...

    Camera Protection

Exactly. This is where The Shell comes in. I keep my lens cap on, and using a pro body, I've got some weatherproofing built into the lens and the camera. So, if the shell is on as well, I'm pretty happy with the protection that I've got and the camera is still kept close at hand. Indeed...

    Small, lightweight sleeping bag

For my search, I also was looking for something small, packable, light, and warm. I ended up ordering a bag from Cumulus. It was perfect. I used it in early May. It is was very very very light and packed down so small that even the smallest compression bags I could find were too large. I use...
