Don't Cheap Out on Raingear!
This year I walked the Camino Frances March 15-April 15 and the weather varied but wasn't bad - of course there are always crappy weather days anytime of year. Gym leggings instead of "hiking pants"
I love the leggings - I found some great Polarmax leggings (Comp4 Stretch Tight) that are technically a base layer but can be worn alone. The are great in the rain, still warm then quick dry. My conundrum ....
If your trekking poles are collapsible they can be in your carry on luggage. I was thinking about shipping ahead as well but after speaking with the airline and airport, they reassured me it's no problem. Of course knives and such wouldn't make it but I'm not sure what else you are thinking...- mary flo

Thanks everyone! Looks like the airline doesn't have a problem with it, it's just getting through security at Boston Logan but I just spoke with a friend who had no problems when travelling out to hike Zion so I'm hoping I'm all set. :)- mary flo

I already have to pay for my carry on if it's over 11lbs so I'm thinking maybe I'll just buy my trekking poles there and then just pay to bring them back.
