You will see other dark blue patches with yellow arrows on the Camino. We'll call out to those passing us (we're slow!) and often a nice conversation will ensue even when it's not a Forum patch. We also have Texas patches and that generates lots of comments as usually the first question asked...
Us neither - during 2 Caminos. However, we have had ex-pilgrims recognize the arrow on the patch in airports or by non-walkers when we were walking on Caminos, especially on the Portuguese where we were virtually the only pilgrims. We also have had comments on the shell on our daypacks on...
LOL! Me too! I once went to Mass with them on when clothes were being washed. Had all underwear also being washed. A strange feeling. We had a couple of weeks in early December after our last Camino and the rain jacket definitely helped with the cold.
We walked from Lisbon to Santiago last October (mid October-end of November). I had Marmot rain pants and jacket and was glad we took. The ones with the full leg zipper were the eariest to quickly put on over shoes (but do add a little weight with the zipper). One was was a downpour with...
Love, love, loved them. After Keens on the Frances I used them on the Portuguese, and they were great on the cobblestones. Yes, they have thick soles, but if you look inside the shoe you will see that the foot bed sits low in the shoe, providing lots of stability (my balance is not the best)...
It was last October. Maybe there are different plans. We relied on what they told us and assumed it would work country to country. Or maybe it's just a problem with Portuguese numbers (someone in Spain told us that) and not a problem to call Portugal with a Spanish SIM. I don't recall that...
Be careful. We got a Vodaphone SIM in the Lisbon airport. We were assured the Portuguese SIM would also work in Spain and France (where we were going post-Camino). It worked fine in Portugal, but when we tried to make a call from Portugal to Spain it would not work because it was roaming out...
Hoka One Ones on the Portuguese last fall. Loved them. They were great on the cobblestones. I'm still wearing them 2 months later. I too was told they wouldn't last by REI salesperson.
We are on the Portuguese now. It has been unseasonably warm this year, but has turned cold at night in the last week. Most places turn on the heat by November 1, but have been slow to do so this year. The last 2 nights we have stayed in hotels just to keep warm (among other reasons). It...
Can anyone give some more info on how to do this? Do you attach the liner to the quilt? I used both a liner and the Costco quilt on an late April Camino Frances. I fought with the liner all night (would wrap around me if I tried to change my position) and had to tuck the quilt down the side...
I was so glad I brought my Tevas. I developed blisters on the outside of my little toes and wearing them saved my camino. Even after the blisters healed, I changed into them for my last couple of hours of walking, and they were a nice change. I wore heavy socks with them - not a problem in...
Mine of a year and a half ago came with a bag that compressed it quite a bit. Kept me snugly on cold nights, but yes it was awfully slippery. Next Camino I will safety pin it to the mattress.
