Do I need rain gear in April and May on the Via de la Plata. What kind of sleeping gear I need?

You will need rain gear for any Camino you do and I would rec if you have a poncho to also bring light weight rain pants. The rain pants could give you another layer if it gets real cold and doesn't weigh much. i have only used a light weight sleep sack for 2 spring Caminos and 3 fall ones.

If you have T mobile service you don't need a Sim as you get free roaming in Spain. Go to their website for details their service provides free Data, Text and Voice in Spain and France. I believe sprint offers it also, who is you provider?

    3 shoes too much?

I'm on my 3rd pair of Moabs and although shoes are like religion everyone needs to find what works for them. But I will say you will see more pairs of moabs on the camino then others. Just finished 550 miles of the Camino Frances and Invieno at 67. No blisters or other foot problems I wear a...

How much do your backpacks weigh?

We just completed our 6th camino and still ended up shipping excess stuff to Santiago. We are in our late 60's and carried our packs for 39 days. Mine weighed 15 lbs and my wife 14 both with 1 liter of water. We never had problems getting refilled even on the Invierno route for the last 6 days.

Advice wanted on lightweight trail shoes

Agree with John about the Merrill Moab Ventilator line, I wore the same pair on 3 trips and probably the most common brand shoe I saw used on on the Camino. Mine are low cut, light weight and not waterproof. The problem with gore-tex and waterproof shoes is they take to long to dry and are hot...

What is your Backpack size for a Summer (May-Oct) Camino on the CF?

I carry a 50 +10 but have never filled it, anything over a 40L is overkill for a male and 35L for the ladies.

Packing lite for the little but fierce

I agree with Trecile ditch the 2lb sleeping bag, not needed unless hiking before April or after Oct. The silk liner is all that you will need. I do have the down blanket from Costco great buy only weighs 6 Oz. That blanket with the liner is all you need for the winter.

"Feet Growing" while on Camino (??)

Glenn, Its very normal for your hands and feet to swell when doing distance walking, biking or running. There are several issues that create this problem and are perfectly normal: 1) In the heat you get more blood flow to your extremities trying to send blood to the capillaries in your hands...

    hiking boots versus tennis shoes

I agree with code_Monkey the Merrill Moab low cut trail shoes are great. I got more than 1000 miles on one pair and still use them for shorter hikes.

    Opinions Please

Jeff, I have the 50 +10 Deuter bag and used it walking 3 Caminos. It is a terrific back pack but is way overkill for the Camino as you need to only carry 15-17 # it weighs almost 2# by itself. I bought it with the thought of hiking the Appalachian trail which you need to carry over 25 pounds...

New shoes at the last minute

If you normally wear regular shoes at 7, I would wear an try an 8. I wear 11 dress shoes (thin socks), size 12 tennis and running shoes (double socks) and and 13 hiking low cut trail shoes (silk liner and heavy hiking socks). Keep in mind the most swelling comes after repeated long days of...

New shoes at the last minute

Joodle You won't have any problems with breaking you shoes in in your time frame. I would highly recommend you make sure you shoes are at least a full size larger as I will guarantee your feet will swell when your doing multiple long days of hiking. The number one issue for new long distance...

Calling all Techies ... re: Travel Adapter with USB ports?

That picture looks like a UK plug this is all you need to convert to USA plug to everywhere in Europe except the UK. The electric current is 220 volt so if you have things like a hairdryer or curling iron it will need an additional converter to downgrade the voltage to 110. All electrical things...

    Sole Survivor

Jeff, That sounds amazing I wore a pair of merrill low profile shoes with vibram soles and got over 1000 miles on them, the soles are still good but I did just buy a new pair for my camino in 2016. I previously ran a lot of marathons and had the same issue with my running shoes ( wear on the...
