Sorry I’ve been away so long. I was looking for stuff like the rumored altars to the sun god, or why pre-Christians might have journeyed to Finisterre. Basically, one of my main characters is a Druid and I was theorizing why he might choose to do the Camino.
I read that, as well as another article or two online. Not many details, just enough to entice. I’ll see if I can get access to EBSCOhost through my library.
Does anyone know of a historical text/book on the Camino before it was the Way of St James? I found a little bit of information on the web but nothing very detailed, just that Celts were making the trip and going to Finisterre rather than Santiago. I’m looking for research sources for a story I...
Does anyone know of a book, either fiction or nonfiction, about or that includes a journey on the Le Puy route? Or another French route? It would have to be in print and available in the US.
I just looked the guides up and noticed the one for the Le Puy route is now in 2 parts, 3 if you count the variants. Is there that much more detail than before? No option of having them combined in one edition?
I also saw that you can get a separate map. It looked nice, with parts highlighted...
Are prices still about the same? Generally 12-15€ for a bed and 15€ for the evening meal? I mostly just want accurate information so that I can budget, because we need to know how much we'll have to save before we can actually go on the trip.
I have both the Le Puy route and Camino Francés books from 2014. I'm planning another Camino, possibly for 2018, and was wondering if these books would still be sufficient for planning and budgeting purposes (which places my husband and I would like to stay and prices) or should I purchase the...
I enjoyed the movie too. I wasn't as much a fan of all the sidetracks to her life before, but I know it wouldn't have given a full view of things if those scenes hadn't been there. I'm just not a fan of "dark" stuff like that. Lived enough myself.
I laughed a lot because her journey reminded me...
I know. It started off okay, but then got very... bizarre... I think I would still list the Brierley guide, though, just because so many people use it. I could put it in the section for guidebooks that describes the book a bit so people know what to expect. I haven't seen the guides from the...
Different kind of feedback:
A couple of sections talk a bit about other books for the Camino that are not Miam Miam Dodo guides. Since these are in French and not really relevant for most anglophones, I thought I would talk about books in English. I know about the John Brierley guide. What...
Correct. I did find it amusing, however, to read the little tidbits that appeared throughout the book when I walked the Le Puy route. Especially one that instructed you to sit by the side of the road and chant the name of one of the hostels a certain number of times because it's a number special...
No, I haven't contacted the publishers. Like I said, I'm mostly doing this for fun and to maintain my French. If I end up finishing the translation I will contact them. But as I have no idea how long it will take to translate all 271 pages, plus add some things that would specifically pertain to...
Since the Miam Miam Dodo books are only available in French, and a lot of people love them, I thought I'd try my hand at translating. I've never done this kind of thing before, so I'm no professional, but assuming I finish the translations we'd have another resource for the Camino available to...
Thought some people might be interested in this.

Does anyone know of a history book about the Camino that discusses more than just Spain? For example, that would talk about routes and culture, maybe even language influences, in France, Germany, Switzerland, etc.
I've been reading a lot while on my Camino and don't feel like re-reading any more books. I usually go with fiction, but I might be open to something non-fiction if it's interesting/entertaining enough. No self-help or religious stuff though, please. I'm reading for entertainment and fun, so...
I'm considering doing a graduate-level independent study before/during my camino and am wondering if anyone has recommendations of what I might read. I speak French, but not much Spanish. I thought La Chanson de Roland might be a good one because of Charlemagne's connection to the pass in the...
