I went to the Clinica San Francisco, and on that day they had no English speaking personnel. They did provide a taxi to the Hospital Regla, near the Cathedral. They did have English speaking staff on hand that day. It was great. May you get as good care as I did!
I took magnesium and potassium tablets with me. Added salt to my water. Did not use sugar.
This worked for me, but I didn't walk in extreme heat. Just be careful and make sure you are well enough hydrated without over-diluting the electrolytes.
My first bout with sciatica was 6 years ago. It took about 6 weeks to feel fairly normal again. I walked the Frances from SJPP and on to Muxia/Finisterre in 2016 with no problems.
However, about 2/3 of the way through my second Camino this spring had me suddenly immersed in great pain.
I was...
I went to the Hospital Hm San Francisco and was referred to the Hm Regla Hospital Urgencia center-- they even reimbursed the taxi fare! It is somewhere behind the Cathedral in one of those ancient stone buildings. Their International department is wonderful.
Laurie, when my brother comes tomorrow, I plan for us to see San Isidore. I am not bedridden, they actually said that some walking is good. Cause? Probably repetitive stress. I do walk pretty fast but I didn’t think I had walked beyond capability. My pack was not all that heavy but may be a...
Thanks so much everyone. Laurie, your post with the link to Maggie’s experience was exactly my experience and her outcome is mine as well. It’s sciatica, I got the shots and advice to lay low for a couple of days— then I can resume walking.
So many Camino angels have helped me. I had to...
I’m taking a rest in Leon. I’m having a hip issue, it’s been going on for a few days. When I get going, I can walk fine, pain free. But when I stop I can’t put any weight on my right leg. In albergues etc i cant walk without assistance (my poles).
So I need to get it looked at. Any suggestions...
David, I love how you share your wealth of knowledge with us so that we may have less pain as we walk.
Can you please also repost your core strengthening exercises? Another thing I need, and I get overwhelmed with too much information when I google these.
Thanks for all you do!
Edit to add...
When my allergies kick up, I can snore (thankfully this is not all the time).
I am a side sleeper who cannot sleep on my back. So this method (glad it works for some) is not one-size-fits-all.
Blessings, Priscilla
I walked the Camino (and on to Finisterre/Muxia) blister and pain free in my Altra Lone Peaks. They did not need breaking in, though I did wear them ahead of time.
A pedorthist at a local running shop fitted me with an insert to use in place of the stock ones. All in all, it was like walking...
Peter, so sorry to hear this, but maybe your vacation with your wife will reveal blessings that you would not have otherwise experienced.
The Camino is always there. May you walk again in peace and joy.
I also walked St. Jean to Santiago to Muxia to Finisterre unscathed. No blisters, pain, discomfort.
I have structural issues with my feet, so I went to a local pedorthist 3 months before my departure date. He fixed me up with the right shoes and orthotics. I then had 3 months to experiment with...
