Dear Fellow Pilgrims,
On September 15, I will begin my 200-mile Camino solo hike from Oviedo to Santiago de Compostela. This adventure is to celebrate my 40th birthday.
I am looking forward to this opportunity to not only “unplug” and reflect, but also to support a cause that is incredibly...
Hi John,
I’m starting the Primitivo on 15 September. I’m arriving on the 13th in the afternoon, so it would be great to meet for coffee, beer, wine, etc.
John and Alex,
I arrive in Oviedo on the evening of the 13th. I will then begin the Camino on the 15th. It would be nice to get a group of...
@DMSyracuse - I am starting from Oviedo on September 15. Were the temperatures fairly cool in the early mornings and evenings during the hilly/mountainous legs of the Primitivo? I was planning to bring a light/insulated jacket.
I will be walking the Primitivo in the second half of September.
I will be staying in private albergues / accommodation all but one night. I assume most of these places will private sheets (free or for a small fee). Would you still recommend that I bring a sleeping bag liner at least?
Thank you
I’m so sad to read this news. I have a reservation for this mid-September. If I’m reading this message correctly, David and Celia will continue to operate through this year?
I was planning to stay at the municipal albergue in Cornellana (the monastery - I'm appealed by the history of the space), but I recently learned about a donativo just 1 km from town where I assume I could make a reservation in advance: Roca Madre. Does anyone have experiences there?
Thank you!
@marcoberna Thank you for your wonderful report. This got me even more excited about my upcoming journey on the Camino Primitivo. I walk out of Oviedo on September 15.
If you have any monuments and eating/drinking establishments that you recommend as "must-do" experiences, please let me know...
Just closing this news feed with two final updates:
- I spoke with a very kind AA customer service person just now. He said I should never have been charged for the earlier flight. They are going to submit a refund request. Thank you, everyone!
- I'm keeping my current itinerary (i.e...
I didn’t accept the new itinerary; I received an email stating that “there’s been a change to your trip” with the new itinerary.
I don’t travel often and am very inexperienced. I would have pushed back had I been more seasoned about all the matters discussed on this thread, MCT policies, etc.
No, I’m very happy with keeping my existing itinerary (i.e., taking your advice and purchasing for an earlier AA flight from PHL to ensure I have plenty of buffer time to make my CLT-Madrid flight in the late afternoon).
When AA canceled my direct flight (PHL-Madrid) they gave me a flight with...
Can you please direct me to where the MCT policy for international flights is available online? I don’t see anything official on the CLT website. If AA violated the airport’s policy I would definitely like to get my money back for the new reservation.
I wanted to throw out another option to the group regarding a nonstop JFK-Madrid.
It appears there are AA options, but the flights are operated by Iberia.
What are your experiences flying Iberia? I only wanted to go this route so long as they would be an reliable enough option. Is there more...
Thank you, @Grousedoctor and @peregrina2000 ... I had not thought of simply booking an earlier flight to Charlotte from PHL.
At the end of the day, my primary concern was missing that Charlotte flight to Madrid. In this scenario, if there are unforeseen delays Charlotte-Madrid (thereby...
Good morning, fellow pilgrims.
I am hiking the Primitivo in mid-September.
American Airlines just canceled my nonstop flight from my closest airport (Philadelphia International Airport, a transatlantic hub for AA).
I'm trying to decide whether I should keep the new reservation made by the...
Thanks again for everyone’s feedback to my post here. One final point I wanted to ask: for a mid-/late-September hike of the Primitivo, would you recommend I bring a head lamp? If so, any brand you recommend?
