LIVE from the Camino Live from the Camino Levante

This is the weather I packed for and didn't get in Feb 2019. It can get very cold in this area. Beautiful country especially in the snow.

Spring weather on Camino de Levante

Check out weatherspark.com . If you go by the average year, April is the month which has the most rain and the chance of a rainy day is about 15%. But like everywhere else, normal patterns are changing and the weather has been anything from drenched to dry in the past 5 years. But if it is wet...

Suggestions for things to see and do around Valencia

The little parish church of San Nicolas which has been described as Valencia's Sistine Chapel. Strong links with the Borgia family Popes.

    Levante/Zamorano/Sanabres Short Combo

Some of my favourite days there and I love that you stopped in Rionegro. Good choices.

LIVE from the Camino OzAnnie jumps on Levante from Toledo (with help from friends )

Glad you liked the hotel Annie! We got the most hideous day when we walked to Gotarrendura but the walk itself was great. The albergue there is great. The bar was closed last year so if someone has reopened it, that's fantastic.

Stop in Cebreros. Lovely day if you break it up and Cebreros is a nice wee town to stay in especially after the climb at the end. And there is a lot of elevation if you continue which is fine but not my idea of fun at all if you try to cram it all into one day. If you like starting super early...

Levante or Plata ( from Seville ).

I've done both with the Levante in Feb/Mar and the VDLP in June/July. I prefer the VDLP as there is more day to day variety. Toledo and Ávila are lovely cities. My other half loved Toledo and we ended up spending an extra day there so we could check out the military museum. I thought the Levante...

Check my "live from the camino" thread. We did skip a couple of bits due to lack of time but it will give you some recent info.

LIVE from the Camino Camino Mixto: Feb-Mar 2019 Levante

Given that the Levante took us longer than expected and we have a time limit, we bussed our way to Ponferrada to start the Invierno omitting the Astorga leg of the VDLP. So the adventures of Barrie and Donna continue on the Invierno forum...

LIVE from the Camino Camino Mixto: Feb-Mar 2019 Levante

Walked into Zamora from Villaralbo and ended up on the Ruta del Duero which was delightful. The 5km took us ages as we had the cameras out. Wwe finally got a woodpecker and I can see how the Woody Woodpecker call was inspired. They do sound a bit like that. We walked along the riverbank...

LIVE from the Camino Camino Mixto: Feb-Mar 2019 Levante

I only heard it myself a few months ago when podcaster Sarah Williams from Tough Girl Challenges mentioned it and it absolutely stuck. There are a few TGC about the Camino for anyone that is interested and her focus is interviewing women who have done or who are doing interesting things and...

LIVE from the Camino Camino Mixto: Feb-Mar 2019 Levante

One thing I have found about this camino was that I got over-ambitious so there has been a bit of peregrino-lite travelling with grabbing taxis. Not what I was planning but that's a lesson in itself. Just because 30+ km days are easy in summer, don't expect the same in cold weather. With extra...

Food is food but that was more basic than most! Filled the spot though :)

LIVE from the Camino Camino Mixto: Feb-Mar 2019 Levante

In hostals, no. In albergues, yes. The ones we have been in have had plenty of blankets but not much more. There are quite a few places where if it is cold it is very cold. The day we got rained on, I basically got straight into my sleeping bag as soon as I got dry gear on including my down vest...

LIVE from the Camino Camino Mixto: Feb-Mar 2019 Levante

Eek! Barrie's sinuses have started up again and given past issues with progression to pneumonia I don't want to stress his body too much so we took a taxi from Medina del Campo to Nava del Rey bypassing more of the plains and walked a shorter day. Nava is a decent sized town with an impressive...

LIVE from the Camino Camino Mixto: Feb-Mar 2019 Levante

Arévalo to Medina del Campo. Very cloudy weather, a 30+ km day and open plains (and a way too comfy bed) meant we were never going to start as early as needed so we grabbed a taxi to MdC. Staying at Hostal Doña Alicia which is a cheap little hostal with a bar attached (45€ for a doble). The food...

LIVE from the Camino Camino Mixto: Feb-Mar 2019 Levante

Gotarrendura to Arévalo. Cloudy but clear weather. Nice walking which tended to be on the level. Stopped for breakfast in Hernansancho. Lots of open farmland. Bar was shut in El Bohodon but there is a shop there. At Tiñosillos we stopped for lunch. It was also market day there on Thursday...

LIVE from the Camino Camino Mixto: Feb-Mar 2019 Levante

The bar is still closed. First chance for breakfast was Bar El Porsche in Hernansancho. Great cooking facilities in Gotarrendura so it's just a case of bringing some supplies.
