Acogida Tradicional Jacobea receives official protection

A friend of mine in Oviedo sent me a link to the official government declaration that "acogida tradicional jacobea" (traditional Jacobean hospitalitiy) is a part of Spain's cultural patrimony and shall be protected. The longer version of the actual declaration is here.

I hope that forum members with more "inside info" can help us understand what this means for the Camino and the traditional hospitality offered by the donativo albergues. I know @Dave alerted us earlier to the formation of a group with the same name, so maybe we have that group to thank. I think this must be a tremendously important first step towards preserving that traditional essence of the camino. The declaration indicates further steps to be taken to turn this declaration into real and specific regulations, so there will be a Royal Decree forthcoming within a year.

I'm assuming that a large part of the focus will be to help donativo albergues thrive in the face of stricter regulations of the tourist industry, involving payment, amenities, etc. that threaten these albergues' survival.

Good way for the Camino to start the New Year!

Oh! I’m delighted to hear this news and will read the longer material tomorrow. I’ve been arguing the concept for about 2 years now as an external observer so am pleased to see that my observation: that hospitality is an intrinsic feature of the patrimony of Spain *because of* and specifically linked to the hospitality (and hospitals) developed on and of the camino routes, is not just me “projecting”.
Thanks for the links!!

It will be interesting to see how (or if) this plays out in terms of regulations and paperwork expected of donativos. Might it serve to help relieve them of the most onerous of the ones being proposed? Or might it just add a whole other layer of regulation and paperwork to accredit themselves?

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I first saw this on Dave Whitson's blog. I'd like to make a donation to these albergues/the ATJ association. Does anyone know how?
