Anyone currently in St Jean that can advise on what is currently needed to stay in an Albergue there? Was anything asked of you like the French Sanitary Pass? Negative COVID test? Vaccination Card?

I am coming by bus from Pamplona in 8 hrs and I just want to spend one night there and start the walk tomorrow morning but have been getting conflicting information from everything I’ve been reading on what may or may not be needed. I have a negative COVID test and an American vaccination card. Would that be enough?

Would be lovely to hear from someone who has been there in the past few days.

Thanks!!

Welcome, @Zazz! And buen camino.
I've copied this list from another thread here - official websites for accurate and current information. It's a moving target.

Adding these:
I am now leaving st Jean . Restaurants asking for the pass most everytime. It was a bit difficult to find a bed but finally found this gite. It had many empty beds. The owner was very warm.

So if you apply online for the French pass sanitaire, but do not yet have the QR code (you won't), that application and your proof of vaccination &Etc are important to have on hand.

Thanks for all those great links and posts! Very informative!

I’ll be making sure to at least send in the application so I can have it on hand if asked.

Really hoping to be able to start from St Jean, but I’m prepared if need be to start in Roncesvalles.
Was curious if they were strictly enforcing the pass sanitairre at the gites and if I needed one to enter the pilgrims office to get my pilgrim passport. Don’t want to break any laws but also really want to walk the Pyrenees.
I’ll be in France for less than 16 hours.

We were required to have French Sanitaire code to enter restaurants in SJPP 4 days ago.

An option would be to walk from Roncesvalles to the border, then retrace back to Roncesvalles and then stay in a village beyond Roncesvalles. You’d get some of the Pyrenees without actually staying in France.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Update:
No issue on the bus, went right over the border into SJ. Beautiful little town.

No issue with accommodation for me or my friend staying in two different places.

No issue at the Pilgrims Office.

Only time I was asked for the pass sanitaire was when entering restaurants. Was not allowed to sit down, but we were allowed to go inside and order our food to go. We got some pizzas and went and sat in a park with a bottle of wine.

So really no issues at all. Only thing is it’s 4:15am and I can’t go back to sleep because I’m too excited haha. Early start for me this morning! Wonder if there is a cafe that is open early?
Buen Camino!

By this do you mean that nobody asked you for anything or…?
Have a great camino!
Yes correct. Was never asked for any paperwork. Not my vaccination card, no COVID test, and not the French Sanitaire QR code. Just the restaurants in order to eat physically at their tables.

Lucky you! My wife and I sat in the park and ate chicken and salad with wonderful French bread followed by the best chocolate muffins ever . April 2017 I'm solo envious of you . Buen Camino
