They look like nomadic rain shelters, or perhaps I should mention that they look like giant, vertical anatomy (I'll let you fill in that 'gap')

When I saw them in 2011, I thought they were an art installation. I think there was a sign.

A selection of Camino Jewellery
What are they made of? If wood then tree trunks, if non-organic then art project may be. I didn't get that far.

My guess is : Really old, ultra vintage, chestnut tree trunks hollowed out either naturally with age or as shelters for pilgrims from the strong winds/rain. Well, I've seen old tree trunks similar to these before and used as temporary shelters.

I walked past them in June of this year , I also assumed they were part of an art installation .
The unfortunate reality is that there is one with an opening large enough to admit a human , this had been used as a toilet time and time again

I saw them and put them down to "street art" then kept walking...

Apparently they are by a local sculptor names Jose Diaz Fuentes (born in Sarria 1940, died in Paris in 2010). These two pieces were originally part of a larger installation commissioned for an interior courtyard in Monterosso Italy. (I take no credit for the attached pics!)
