Better Deal for Family of Four - Albergues or Pensions?

Camino Frances (SJPP to Fisterra) (June/July 2015)
Hello, All! We're leaving mid-June for our first Camino and I need some advice. With some albergues costing as much as 12 euro a person, how much more would an inexpensive pension normally run? I'm thinking that if it isn't too much more, we might do at least a pension every so often. For us, we mainly look forward to albergues as places to meet and socialize with fellow pilgrims. My thanks in advance!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

It would depend on the albuergue and the pension. I will say this, you'll be able to get a private room in a lot of albuergues (no extra cost, just the cost of four beds). Also, if one of your children is really young he/she won't always be charged, even though they'll get a bed (depends on the albuergue and the hospilitario)

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Hi, I think you would need to check out all the options at each place you decide to stop. I found that a private room in an albergue usually cost about 40 euros. The pension down the road might also charge 40 euros for a room but give you much better value for money. Jill

Didn't know this, thanks!

This is what I was hoping to hear! Thanks!

Traveling with 3 adults and one baby, we usually got a private room for four for the normal cost of 4 beds. So if 8 euros a night, it's be 32. etc We only did a few pensions, but when we did they were usually SLIGHTLY more expensive.

Now maybe the only reason we didn't get charged extra for the private room was that we called a day in advance, told them we had a baby, and my wife has a great peninsular accent........ But our experience was it just cost the same as a non private room, but they'd give us the private room. Sometimes they didn't even charge for the baby.
