LIVE from the Camino Camino del Salvador, April 2024

Left León at 8am. Arrived at Cabanillas 2. The path is very beautiful.
20km total. Followed the River. At first town we went to the lovely Bar and Tienda. I bought cheese and ham and we were all set for Cabanillas.. (no shop/no bar). We were very glad to stop here as the path is very stoney and up and down. Weather is to be very unpredictable. Big thumbs up for Flor for meeting us and telling us all the history of the Camino in this town. (We had to use google translate)- I have words but not enough.
We’ve got the bottom bunks, blankets her, no heating?
Looking forward to Buiza tomorrow..

Add to post above we ate in Pola de Gordon at Meson de Miguel (not positive) the lovely lady in Town hall recommended it, a Menu with Sopa Main dessert coffee wine small beer etc Set us up for no food Buiza. Anyone starting out should try get this late mid day Comida! Many places serve best food day time and Platos combinados in evening.
Buiza to Pajares
Lovely forest path to start, views of River, climbs begin, the days walk was far more spectacular than I imagined. We got a small hail shower. Walkers behind us got full snow blizzard.
Now for the truly unexpected. We stayed at Albergue. Ernesto was v good. The Hospitality and Cena at the Posada is 5 star!!! Yes.. everyone who ate some had lunch and dinner said Food was brilliant.
The lovely Chef/owner maybe called Enya? Explained he gets very upset when Pilgrims come and have not Booked ahead. They give him reviews etc… We met German pilgrims who walked this route with no guide!! No food and walked on to Pajares, only for a very kind Dutch pilgrim who rang Pajares fir them and booked food ahead fir them. They arrived in Pajares at 7pm through snow storm. Shocking.
So Poladura 5 stars.
Pajares route gets more than 5 stars!
Beautiful weather snow in Mountains great welcome at the Albergue great food at Mirador both Comidas/lunch and Cena dinner. No coffee in Albergue machine. Bring food to eat breakfast and packed lunch.
Pajares to Benduenos was tough as we took the Road option, it’s a very quiet road no traffic, we were afraid to go the high route as many spots on the earlier path had a lot of mud and running water. And a local told us it was a route for fit young men!!
However when we ascended to Fresneo via the most beautiful long forest track we forgot about the “road”.
Benduenos is beautiful. Only 4 pilgrims. Sandra’s heater was broken and she had advised all pilgrims. Poor Sandra pilgrims had broken her very expensive heater by placing clothes in it.
Benduenos to Pola including a visit to Cristina de Lena was beautiful than we got our very first Heavy rain in 6 days.

Me too!!! Do you have any idea about how crowded it will be and the weather? I'm a bit concerned because the albergues at beginning have few beds . And if it will be cold or rainy.
