Time of past OR future Camino
I am walking from Ponferrada to Santiago de Compostela from Monday 7th April to 18th/20th April 2014
I am walking from Ponferrada to Santiago de Compostela from 7th April arriving (hopefully!) Good Friday.

If anyone has any experience of walking this stretch in 11/12 days or of the weather in mid-April I would be very grateful.

I am also trying to decide what L rucksack I need and am wondering whether I would get away with 30-35L at this time of year?

Thanks

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

35l is more than enough-weather? One year cool and pleasant many wild flowers, the next so very warm they were all gone, last year there was snow in April and the year before a dreadful ten days of rain late April into May - you takes your chances and you rolls the dice. Rain gear-long flannels-and shorts may all be needed. Buen Camino

I agree with Scruffy, 35L is MORE than enough.
I also agree that the weather is unpredictable.
My experience has been lots of wildflowers, lots of rain, with sunny days sprinkled in.

11-12 days give you time enough. In opposite to all the answers, if you are going to buy a backpack, take a larger one than 30-35 l. In April you will need some warm clothes. It is easier to pack when you have some spare place in your backpack. Larger does not always mean heavier. Smaller does not always mean easier to carry either.
Be aware that Easter means a lot of people on the road.

The hubs and I are taking off from Ponferrada on June 3. Have mapped our way hoping to walk an average of 20kms per day, some days more some days less and some days of rest? We return on the 18th so we have padded our our travel in case of wanderlust... Some of the places might require exploration
