Camino on the Radio

Time of past OR future Camino
Yes
There is a program on Public Radio (USA) about the Camino. The host is Rick Steves who is a fairly well known guide book writer and has a travel series on TV. He is interviewing a German comedian who did the Camino and has written a book.

The whole show is about an hour...but if you can fast forward it ...the Camino part starts at about 33 minutes. The first part of the show is about traveling to the sites of Saints in Italy and is pretty interesting including a little about the Camino di San Francesco to Assisi.

Thanks for posting this link, grayland. I know that Hape Kerkeling's book produces a lot of varied reactions, but I think he answered the questions the way a lot of us would have. I especially liked his take on the "orthodoxy" question and his description of the personal interactions.

BTW, the book came out in English and I was surprised when I read it. Though he took a lot of hits on this forum for being a comedian, his book was very personal and not a spoof of anything, really heartfelt. Not all of it resonated with me, but that's no surprise since the Camino is so personal.

I expect that as soon as Rebekah's book comes out, she'll be interviewed world-wide as well. Can't wait!

Thanks for sharing!

Rick was in Santiago about 6 month ago. I see that he also has included the Camino in his "Spain 2010" guidebook.

Will listen once home...

Ivar

I really hope that Rick Steves does not get too involved with the Camino. He has a big following of American tourists who flock wherever he promotes. I have seen many wonderful small places that Rick has "discovered" be changed forever by the swarms of tourists.
I know some feel that more is better...but it does seem that the Camino is operating pretty near capacity in the high season. Just my opinion.
