Hi All,

Just wondering if folk have used the Mastercard "Cash Passport" successfully in Spain? Also would you know if you incur fees upon withdrawing cash from an ATM. Bank literature says that you shouldn't but I am visiting in the US at the moment and I have been.

Could I respectfully ask that we keep it to the above card not experiences with other cards

I am using this card in Spain, indeed I withdrew cash about ten minutes ago. I have been charged fees for withdrawals.

Mine charges for ATM withdrawals but not transactions in shops/restaurants etc.

Ours charged 2 euros per cash withdrawal, max amount 250 euros per 24 hours. No charge for using as a debit card in hotel/restaurant/supermarket had we wanted to.

We checked out the free to use cash machines on Mastercard's website, so no added ATM charges.

I used a Travel Card (Visa). At the ATM You need to check the screen before saying yes to the transaction as fees do vary considerably. On one occasion the fee for a 300 Euro withdrawal was 64 euros so i said No and went to another machine. This time the fee was only a couple of euros. So beware! Carry some euros with you and hide them in different places. Buen camino.

Cirrus/Maestro/Interac charges a fee no matter what your bank charges are on top of that. There is usually an exchange fee too.

I used a multi-currency Cash Passport in France, Spain and Singapore this year and was not charged any fees. The card was used to pay for purchases, in the SNCF/RER ticket machines and to withdraw from ATMs.

The Cash Passport website states that it is free to withdraw from International ATMs (i.e. outside Australia) but that some operators may charge an additional withdrawal fee.

2 further queries:
Just joined the Forum, doing the Frances in September, thinking to take A Cash Passport card, either the multi-currency which is Mastercard, as per posts here, or the single currency Visa card, which I have used before.
Query 1: do I understand with the multi-currency card you can only withdraw 250E every day?

I was hoping to make maybe 2 v. large withdrawals only, to replace cash, of which I wd. take enough for perhaps half the projected trip-length.

Query 2: were the cards that were charged for withdrawals on ATMs bought in Australia, where I live?

I am on the Camino now.. You can check online for fee free cash passport locations in each town you are in.. Each major town at least.. I have not been charged fees using these ATMs on the Camino.. If you get enough for the smaller towns along then you should be fine. S
