finding the WAY in San Sebastian

Hola!

I'll be arriving to Irun around 10:30pm on June 30th after a looooooooong day of travel. I still hope that enough adrenaline will kick in to energize my walk to SS the next day. I may even walk across the bridge into France to get a stamp-- that may seem silly, so I'll see! Anyway, I am concerned about actually finding my way on the Camino in San Sebastian. There are so many pensions, hostels, etc, just for tourists, but I don't know if there are any that you directly pass when you are on the Camino. Are there yellow markers that guide you off the trail into town? If you have to find lodging around the city, how did you get yourself back on the Camino? I'd like to book a place ahead of time, but since I'll be traveling for so long the day before, I am hesitant to book for the next day even though I aim to arrive to SS on July 1st. Im in pretty good shape.

I would love some guidance on how to stay on the Camino in SS and best way to find lodging. I don't mind spending a little bit more this particular day as I'll just be starting out and regrouping from the flight.

The Camino is pretty well marked in SS.
Follow the "Boardwalk" right along the beach toward the west. It follows all the way and then through a a tunnel and you are out of SS.
 
Hi again, Tracita. One important point to clarify: you should not expect to get a stamp if you pop back into France. While I have on one occasion had my passport inspected when getting off the train in Hendaye, there is no formal inspection or stamp. There also isn't a pilgrim stamp available at the train station. When we asked last August, we were directed back into the center of town, to city hall (or even further to the central tourist office). I doubt either will be open at that hour.

As Grayland said, SanSeb is easy to navigate, as long as you don't overthink it. Follow the coast line nearly the length of the city. The municipal albergue should be open, since you're arriving on July 1, but it's not central. This year, when I arrive late (flying in from the US), I'm going to sleep in Pensión Ann, because it's very central and I got a good price on booking.com. Don't know anymore about it than that!

Both the pilgrim albergue and youth hotel in Irun close at 22:00; neither takes reservations. You might use this handy Gronze.com list of lodging possibilities to find a place. If you are arriving by train the Pension Bidasoa is a handy choice since it is located near the railroad station.
