Time of past OR future Camino
Nov 2018 short segment SJPP to Lorca
Hi all - thanks for the good information. My wife and I have some free time and thinking about walking a segment of the Camino from St. Jean to wherever over about 7-10 days, starting Nov 1 or so. For that time of year, is starting at St. Jean a good idea? I read the route Napoleon, which seems a bit more scenic than the Valcarlos way, will be "closed" Oct 31?-- we would like to hike off auto roads as much as possible--is the Valcarlos way pleasant? the way after Roncesvalles OK that time of year? any other tips? any other sections to try first? Thanks very much.

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
The Valcarlos route is safe and quiet at times.
At St Jean Pilgrim Office you will be equipped w a map of this route.
Some of the route is off the main highway and through the forrest, absolutely beautiful.
But, all the altitude you will now meet is from the 16 km mark (Gañecoleta) to the top just at the top at the Chapel (Ibañeta) at the 23 km mark, 2 km from Roncesvalles.
It will go from 400 mtrs to 1055 mtrs and is a real breath stopper.
Have plenty water and some extra treats and chocolate, and you´ll be fine.
Last shopping is around Valcarlos.....
after the Chapel it´s a mere saunter to the monastery...
