If time is of the essence, fly with Easy jet direct to Bilbao and take a cab circa $100 directly to Santa Domingo della Calzada or Belorado.Bilbao is only about 130 km from Belorado, but I dont know if Ryan Air flies there. One idea would be to get a bus from Bilbao to Burgos (Rome2Rio shows one at 3, 4:15 and 6 pm), then connect to local bus, or get a taxi for the last 50 km to Belorado, that might.
I don’t think you can get there from Madrid if you arrive at 4:10, but you might be able to get to Burgos, spend the night there, and then the next day head to Belorado and just start walking when you get there. I’m assuming you don’t have the luxury of taking an extra day to get there. Hope you work it out, buen camino, Laurie
Oh I’ll get there one way or anotherI sympathize, been there done that several times, and this seems to be the norm these days rather than the exception.
Can you cancel and get a full refund?
If so, before you do that, check out all your other options of getting to Belorado.
A completely different route and time may suit you better. Good luck!
I looked at EasyJet to Bilbao but ruled it out because it arrives even later. I didn’t know a cab would be so reasonable so will look into this. Thanks. If time is of the essence, fly with Easy jet direct to Bilbao and take a cab circa $100 directly to Santa Domingo della Calzada or Belorado.
A friend of mine travelling in Spain exclusively used BlaBaCar and swore by it. It may be an easy way to take Laurie's suggestion and head to Burgos.Moving between two big cities you're sure to get a ride. Then taxi to Belorado? I dont know how far in advance you can book a trip though. Can you think of other, perhaps better options for us to reach our starting point?
I didn’t know about BlaBlaCar! What a brilliant thing that seems to be. I just checked today’s availability for Madrid to Burgos and found several options, all cheap. Nothing for the section to Belorado but as you said, I might manage a bus or taxi for that section, or at worst stay in Burgos instead.A friend of mine travelling in Spain exclusively used BlaBaCar and swore by it. Just take a hotel in Burgos and the earliest Jimenez-bus the next day . Bus 7.30 arrives in Belorado at 8.15. and you can start walking. Many people will start at the same time.I didn’t know about BlaBlaCar! What a brilliant thing that seems to be. I must thank @peregrina2000 too, because I somehow missed her very helpful post when I read responses earlier.
My quotes for taxis from Bilbao to Belorado are all over €200, btw. Most are around €230, and I could hire a car for about the same.
Yes we may have to do that. We’ve booked into the lovely Hostal B in Belorado, and I have an ongoing conversation with them because we ended there last September, and they were great in looking for my lost ring for me. We thought it’d be great to begin from there this year—picking up exactly where we left off, and supporting lovely people—but I suppose if we have to cancel then so be it.Just take a hotel in Burgos and the earliest Jimenez-bus the next day . After staying in Belorago 2 days later I got a train from Burgos to direct to Madrid. You will definitely be able to get a bus from Burgos to Belorado or if the timing doesn't work then get a quote for a taxi. Ryanair definitely flies into Bilbao although getting from there to Belorado could be challenging. Good luck.Hello Camino friends.
I’ve just received the dreaded flight change email from RyanAir.
We’re flying Manchester to Madrid, 21st May this year. Our flight was due to arrive around noon, and we then had plenty of time to reach Belorado, from where we’ll walk the next day
They’ve changed the flight so it now lands at 4:10pm (presuming no delays).
Do you know of a way for us still to reach Belorado that night?
Can you think of other, perhaps better options for us to reach our starting point? We wouldn’t mind flying to a different airport if flights are running, for example. When I booked this flight there were very few flights to the north of spain from north west England: it’s very restrictive. Or maybe there are late buses, trains or car option which I couldn’t find on Rome2Rio?
RyanAir are asking me to confirm or cancel I’ll really appreciate help before I decide what to do.
Thanks in advance!
I also have used Blabar car from Bilbao to Pamplona. These days, though... not unless I could be sure of the vaccination and covid status of the driver and other passengers.I didn’t know about BlaBlaCar! What a brilliant thing that seems to be. There might be a flight to La Coruna then take a taxi to Belorado. I flew to L C in '19 then took a taxi to Ferrol.Hello Camino friends.

So, my question now is, where in Madrid would you stay for the Friday night, before heading on to Belorado the next day?
