For non-smokers, a couple of restaurants in Galicia

Portugal's strong non-smoking rules spoiled me -- I could eat in almost any restaurant without the stench of cigarette smoke. Once I crossed the bridge into Galicia it became more difficult.

Two I can recommend are:

In Arcade, actually on the Caminho between the albergue and the bridge, Rincon de Arcade, with large pleasant non-smoking section. I can't eat shellfish so can't comment on their specialties, but the menu is extensive.

Pontevedra -- Heladaria Soportolo -- on the Praza Ourense. A cafe/ice cream shop. Several pasta dishes, lasagnes, sandwiches, and, of course, elaborate sundaes. Completely non-smoking inside.

Thank you Kit, this is really useful information and two restaurants I will certainly visit.

Is a 2010 post. Smoking is forbbiden since 2011 in all restaurants, bars, etc
However, you may have to plow through a cloud of smoke to get inside! Smokers have pretty much ruined outside dining and drinking. It is possible if you can find an upwind seat, though. I think you may have to travel in Asia to find more smokers than you will find in Spain. None of them are indoors, thankfully.

OH, I didn't know that it was illegal now, like in England. I hate smoke when I'm drinking my wine and eating, so this is semi good that indoors is clean air, but it would be nice to be breathing fresh air outdoors while drinking too.
