Hiking pole shortage in Porto

I almost started another Camino without walking poles. My intention was to buy them in Porto today and start walking tomorrow morning. I checked the Decathlon hours here and there were no problems. But when I got to the Decathlon, I couldn't find them. I asked a staff member and she said she thought they were sold out. Eventually I found one pair and one single and one pole missing a section. So I got the last pair. Anyone starting in Porto in the immediate future is advised to bring their own poles.

So the title should be "Hiking poles shortage in Porto Decathlon"

I'm sure there are many more sport equipment stores in Porto. Anyway if you really want to buy walking poles in Decathlon there is one in Gaia and another one in Matosinhos.

I think it's always handy to bring your own poles.

Yep. Though I forgot to stop by the cathedral today so I will get a late start tomorrow at 9 am as I swing by when it opens for my first stamp.

My ticket was "carry on only" and I didn't want to count on them being accepted as carry on.

I’m heading out tomorrow as well. Going to catch the bus to Matosinhos and start from there. Maybe see u on the trail!

I was thinking about them but according to their website they are closed on Sundays. I arrived Sunday and had hoped to set out before opening hours today (Monday).

I am guessing it is a seasonal thing. It is October, and the demand for hiking poles is markedly lower. They will likely restock in February, preparatory for the Spring Camino season.

I’m happy to report that Decathlon in Porto this morning (5 October) had about 50 poles of three different prices! Freshly stocked. (I start tomorrow and was worried by William’s post, so was there first thing at 10am this morning.).
