How to optimize a video for uploading on the forum??

Hello
I notice that sometimes when I upload a video to the forum, it takes forever to view it. The video stops and starts repeatedly. It is no better whether viewed on a computer or phone.

What I need is a simple step by step method for optimizing a video, for posting here on the forum. I know next to nothing about IT and video properties so the steps need to be in plain language.

Thanks in advance

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I'm not that much of a techie myself, but are you trying to upload the video itself, or merely share a link?

If uploading the video file, and it is quite large, that might be the problem.
The file could be 'buffering', as in trying to load.
And I'm sure the forum has a maximum file size allowed.
I've come across that loading photos that were too big.

Usually the best way I have found is not to upload the video file itself, but to just share the link to the video.
To do that, the video needs to have been uploaded, or 'hosted' somewhere already.
Like YouTube, Vimeo or other platforms.

When you go to add media, you will see two options.

Upload. as in uploading the file itself, or
Embed, as in add the url / weblink of the file (youtube etc)

Hope that helps

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hello @Robo & others...
If I used a video compressor app, would that solve the problem?

I could delete the video which I posted in a forum thread then repost inserting the compressed version. Would this improve things?

Cheers

Sorry I missed this post for some reason.
I would suggest embedding the video link rather than uploading the video.

Then when someone plays the video, the hosting platform (YouTube, Vimeo etc) should auto select the best resolution according to the bandwidth available. So no need to compress the video.

Others may have better knowledge / ideas of course......

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.
