Just want to let you all know that there are very many pilgrims on the Norte at present. It seems like they are mostly booking ahead. We arrived at 100 bed Juvenile in Zarautz to find it Completo so have had to book into a Pension . Municipal closed until summer. They may have to rethink that. Now I have to think about prebooking which I don’t like unless it’s a city.
Don’t want to take the chance of Albergues being full in Deba. Second day and first blister.

There is a pension just on the opposite side of the train tracks pension zumardi was not bad and the owner called for a pizza for me no food on that side also I met some pilgrims who reported theft at the municipal so just be aware. One person lost their boots along with others money and valuables .

Your report knocked me out of my now well worn socks. We started the Norte in Irun on the 15th of April, and made it as far as Santander.

Beautiful scenery, superb restaurants, nice weather, and no pilgrims. We met less than a dozen in ten days. Now it's true that we were staying in pensions mostly, (pension zumardi was nice), but we rarely encountered anyone on the trail. It was so quiet, we decided to aborte the norte, and caught a train to Fromista. Guess we should have started a week later.

Buen Camino

Thanks for taking time to report in from the field. Oh no, is what I am thinking. This is exactly what I don't want to have to do on the Camino and is a negative side of our technological age. I assume that there will be even more pilgrims when I arrive. Couldn't leave earlier unfortunately. Buen Camino!

A great agroturisimo just before Deba. Reasonably priced
