María Salomé Mother of Saint James, Stone Boats, and France?

María Salomé, daughter of Saint Anne, wife of Zebedee, mother of Saint James, and present both at the crucifixion and the discovery of the empty tomb of Jesus. All subjects with which we pilgrims should be familiar. I have written previously concerning her church in SdC, Rúa Nova, 31, sadly neglected last time I saw it. While in SdC, she deserves a visit.

What else do we know about María Salomé the mother of Saint James? She was exiled by the Romans placed in a "stone ship" without sail or oar, along with many other Christians (sounds familiar no?). They were driven by currents to the delta of the Rhône where they landed. There, they were greeted by Sarah the Black , who became the servant of the Maries, María Salomé and Marie-Jacobé and no The Maria was busy elsewhere and while the Magdalena traveled with them in the boat she went on and finished up in Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume. María Salomé and Marie-Jacobé may be found today in the French sea-side town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.

Wiki-guru informs me that Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer is located along the Santiago de Compostela Camino? The Via Tolosana, begins in Arles and heads almost due west to Toulouse, Saintes-Maries-de-la-Meris is 40k southwest from Arles so not the right Camino. We have all learned not to trust the Wiki-guru but does anyone know which Camino is referred to on the site? Something coming in along from Italy? A Cannes Camino (I don’t think so doesn’t sound right)?

Hi @scruffy1
another historical tradition, more accredited by the Church of Rome, tells that Maria Salome arrived in Lazio (central Italy) in an unspecified year after a long pilgrimage, together with Saints Demetrio and Biagio
near the town of Veroli. And here she died after converting a pagan. In the Basilica (Church) of the city of Veroli, the relics of the Saint are kept. And in a basement there is the ancient urn that kept the bones and a marble plate that recalls the place where the remains of the saint were found. (all from web news)

A variant of the "Via Francigena del Sud" (Italy) passes right through the city of Veroli.

the attached photo shows a procession with the Saint and the city of Veroli in the background

Funny that all the Marias are connected to the Camino, Maria - La Virgen del Pilar, María Salomé, Marie-Jacobé creating the James the Lesser confusion, and the Magdalena. María Magdalena and Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume. Those of us who have walked from Vezelay have seen her relics which are also there, having been...ah...well...that is...translated from Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume. Relics are never purloined they are translated since the Saint him/herself would never allow improper removal.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

And as Saint Anne was the mother of Mary, therefore grandmother to Jesus, James and his brother John are thus first cousins of Jesus. Since The Boanerges and their father Zebedee seem to have been busines partners with Peter and Andrew we can see why those four were closest to the Lord
