I have some questions I would really appreciate answers for or at least links/advice for.
I plan to do the Camino Frances starting from St. Jean Pied de Port. The current plan is to leave stuff that is not suitable for carrying during the camino in Prague with friends (I am visiting there in mid-June). A friend has offered to drive me to St. Jean Pied de Port, so I will likely start the walk from wherever his car leaves me.
1 What kind of bag do you suggest for doing the camino frances?
2 Which items (and how many of each) do you suggest for a thirtysomething male? I would like to pack light, but it doesn't make sense to leave out things (of course).
3 As for accommodation, should I reserve beds now? Do most people have a definite itinerary and stick to it or is it advisable to not reserve rooms because some people walk faster or more slowly than expected? I am not planning to really "sightsee" along the way, but please do mention places that you believe are worthy diversions.
4 I sweat a lot and I will be doing the camino during the heat of the summer. How do you suggest I stay properly hydrated? Are there plenty of places to get water along the "main route" or should I anticipate 15+km stretches of carrying 5L jugs of water around with me?
5 Fortunately, I am in good physical condition. Since that is the case, what do you suggest as an itinerary (similar to question 3)? Will I really take around 30 days as most people write or will my generally quick walking pace mean I should expect to finish in less than 30 days?
6 If I am only carrying the bare minimum with me during the camino and I then decide to sightsee in Galicia once I've finished the camino, what are your thoughts on obtaining clothes/shoes for once the walk is over? Does it make any sense to have stuff shipped from Prague or am I better off buying in Galicia some inexpensive clothes/shoes that look nicer than what I will have been walking in?
7 I need to be in Prague on August 11 to catch a flight from there. What would be a cheap but not extremely long way to get from Santiago (or somewhere near it) to Prague? I have heard that I might get nicely-priced flights out of Santander, but perhaps you have other ideas.
*I really appreciate any and all feedback. Just as some additional information, which might play into advice for sightseeing during or after the camino: I have a high level of French and Spanish, so I look forward to using those languages during and after the journey.
